“Beautiful space with confused service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2013

The rooms and grounds are magnificent. The service is well meaning but disorganized. Our luggage was delivered to someone else's room. We were told that wifi did not work because there were too many guests. Yet, all in all, I would highly recommend the hotel for its beautiful gardens and tastefully decorated rooms.

A wonderful property all around. Spacious villas with amazing bathrooms. Be sure and take a ride on the Paso horses. Breakfast is a treat. To say that the gardens are unbelievable is an understatement. This property was chosen by the Linblad Machu Picchu tour that I was part of. Linblad picked well.

What a great hotel! The rooms are fabulous: very spacious, and have a rustic feel even though they are very modern. I was spoiled by the small touches like the heated tile floors, the electric towel rack and the nice welcoming plate of cookies, chocolates and baklava.

The food at the restaurant was excellent; great quality and sizable portions. The property itself is beautiful. My only minor complaint was that I couldn't log onto the complimentary Internet.

Otherwise, my experience at this hotel was perfect. Easily the nicest hotel I stayed in during my travels in Peru.

Of the 3 hotels I've stayed at, including supposedly the best Hotel in Cusco-Hotel Monasterio, Sol L Luna was by far the best, most comfortable and accomodating.

At check in we meet Ichero Sanchez, the Assistant General Manager, whose delightful personality was shared with us every day of our visit. For the special Christmas Eve Dinner, Ichero sat with us and shared a pre-dinner cocktail and gave us an wonderful history of the start of the hotel and the educational groups supportive by the Hotel. At dinner, Petit, the Owner of the hotel greeted everyone for dinner..a very nice personal touch.

Our casita was spotless, and surrounded by a spectacular variety of flowers, shrubs and trees. My favorite was the warm luxurious Alpaca blanket and sumptuous bed as I arrived with a nasty cold. A great night's sleep and we were off running to Pisac, Ollanytaytambo and Machu Picchu.

Every night we returned, we availed ourselves of the hot steam and dry saunas. There are 3 distinct personalities to Sol Y Luna: the lodging which offers personal casitas or bungalow apartment with Spa/Restaurants; and the Activities area grounded by the Horse and variety of activities and then the Association to support the Children of Urabamba through education and sport.

I loved the more casual restaurant located at the far end of the property with it's large fireplace, comfortable seating and bar area. I had a casserole of wild mushrooms, but it was a crock of soup of mushrooms, potatoes and herbs-- absolutely delicious!

But for me, it came down to engagement with the staff. Everyone was friendly, very respectful, and allowed you to determine the level of engagement you wanted to have with each of them.
Privacy was respected and service provided promptly.

There were interesting tour groups visiting at the same time: Adventure Disney and the National Gerographic Tour of Galapagos and Machu Picchu. Each seemed to be having a great time, and the services provided to the larger groups appeared to be of high caliber.

Only at breakfast when the groups arrived for breakfast at 8 am did it seem a bit crowded, but an adjustment the following day, and we were back to feeling as though there were few guests on site.

TO visit Machu Picchu, make a day trip of it, not to bother with securing a hotel reservation as taking an early train and leaving late in the day are enough of Aguas Caliente. There is so much more to see using Sol Y Luna as a jumping off point at the beginning of the day, and a great peaceful, pristinely clean and gorgeous setting to return to each night to.

Room Tip: The larger bungalows with fireplaces and hot tubs looked divine. Our Casita was lovely none the less...

Sol y Luna is a fabulous place!!!!!!! It is the nicest of all the hotels I stayed at in Peru. The gardens are spectacular, as are the views of the mountains. The cottages are very tastefully decorated (beautiful paintings behind the bed) and are very cozy. Very luxurious bathroom with sunken tub which was perfect for soaking after an 8 hour horseback ride to Moras and Moray. Also, very cozy and comfortable bed. The food was excellent, particularly breakfast. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Day trip on horseback was wonderful, as was the guide Carlos. Obviously, the owners pay attention to every detail. I wish I could have stayed longer!!!

Of all our hotels in Peru, this was by far the best. The gardens are so beautiful and the mountain views are spectacular! The rooms are individual cottages and are perfect for relaxation and privacy. The place is a little secluded, however, there are two restaurants on property as well as a lovely bar where we enjoyed peruvian wine and home-made pickled veggies. We also enjoyed a local "circus" while we were there which was very similar to Cirqe du Solei. My only complaint is that we only stayed one night.

After completing the Inca Trail and visit to the amazing Machu Picchu, the next thing on the agenda was total relaxation and a few days to take stock of Peru and consider what we had just achieved. We were therefore very pleased that Imagine Latin America (the company that we booked our trip to Peru through in the UK) had chosen the Hotel Sol y Luna for us to stay at for 3 nights. Set in Urubamba, in the Sacred Valley, this resort is a little haven of luxury in an otherwise solitary and quiet, but beautiful location. There is not much to do in the immediate surroundings of the resort, (except marvel at the natural beauty and stunning mountains), however the hotel offers a wide range of excusrions to keep you entertained during your stay. I can particulalry recommend the mountain biking and the horse riding trips - both are a fun way to spend an afternoon. The resort itself contains a library filled with interesting books, an outdoor swimming pool and a wonderful spa offering luxorious treatments: so plenty of things to do on site. The 2 restaurants on site offer a wide range of choice, including guinea pig, and the food is excellent. The rooms are all individual lodges, with plenty of space and HUGE beds! Very comfortable indeed. All in all, this is a perfect place to spend a few days relaxing in the beautiful surroundings. Another little gem fhat Imagine Latin America has found!!

Room Tip: Any! They are all beautiful!
