Los Perales Ecolodge
Reviewed February 7, 2014

Are you a budget traveller and/or looking for the individual hotel? Well, you found it. Los Perales is familiy-run, quiet and pretty close to the bus station, hidden behind walls in an unpaved road. The motor-rikshas will bring you there for less than 2 Soles.
The garden or better orchard is fantastically overgrown, and if you have some interest in gardening or botany, you will have many topics to discuss with the landlord. English is spoken.
The owners are very friendly and help with one or the other travel tip in the vicinity of Urubamba. BTW, don´t bother to stay in touristically swamped Pisaq or Ollantaytambo, Urubamba is an excellent base for day-trips by local bussees to these places, and even better, you can catch the train Machu Piccu here as well (Tambo de Inca hotel is the train station - no joke. Make sure you buy the tickets at Lima airport or in Cusco).
The rooms are located in little houses in the garden, they are clean, beds are good, only the water is just warm, but at least enough for a quick shower - the owner is aware and is working to fix it. Speaking about fixing: The table-tennis in the garden pavillon hasn´t been used for years and the dry swimming pool is now hidden in a corn field. So there are some indications that the hotel has seen better days, but my room was without reason for complaint.
The breakfast is simple, but excellent: The best coffee in Peru, real Espresso (!), but bring some milk to avoid the milk powder. The bread is freshly baked in the wood-fired oven and the jam is made from the garden´s fruits. The juice is freshly squeezed.
The hotel is far from being crowded, in the low season you may be the only guest with the owners´s full attention.
All in all, excellent value for the money in my opinion, I fully enjoyed my 3 night-stay and recommend this place for the non-mainstream traveller.

Although a LonelyPlanet "Tip", this place luckily has kept its simple charme. We actually had planned to stay one night, but liked it so much that we stopped here a second time on our way back. Almost every food that is served here comes from the beautiful, chaotic garden behind the house. The wonderfully polite owner does everything to make you feel comfortable and can tell a lot of stories from a turbulent life. Besides he really knows how to make good pancakes and coffee...

I had a great time, it was very peacfull and quite, everything we needed on our long trip. Like an eclave. We had a great breakfast made by hosts, delicious sweet tortilla with ingredients straight from their garden. I was really sorry to leave, but I'm sure I want to come back. I am recomending this hostel 100%. :)

A beautiful setting just outside of the city center, in a wild but green garden. Very quiet and neat double rooms with private bathroom with hot showers. The rather shy owner, a former school teacher who speaks English, did everything to make us feel at home and made us a breakfast with homemade, warm bread, and homemade marmelade and honey. A hidden treasure!

I stayed here with my girlfriend for one night. The owner is lovely, very kindly made us dinner even though we arrived quite late. The food was very tasty (lomo saltado, what else) and for dessert had some interesting fruit, no idea what it was, but it was from the garden which is beautiful. Clean room, hot water in an en suite and well priced. We didn't have much time in Urubamba but we walked around and there didn't seem to be much to the town, but a convenient stopover for the night on your way to Machu Picchu and this hostel was brilliant.

We could unfortunately only stay one night but, though not very easy to find (ask the locals in case you're lost!) very much enjoyed this little time in the beautiful garden, clean rooms with a delicious breakfast!

I was there for two days with my husband. The hostel is really nice, the rooms are clean with bathrooms with hot water. The price is lower average as for Urubamba. What's the best, the hostel has a beautiful like-from-fairy-tale garden in which you can eat breakfast. The hostel is run by a lovely elder man who speaks English and Spanish. Buy breakfast there (for 13 soles per person) - you'll get yummy home-made banana omelette with honey, jams from exotic fruits and fresh papaya-orange juice. Delicious, the best breakfast in Peru ever!
