Casa Colibri eco-Lodge
Reviewed September 18, 2011

Casa Colibri is a new, wonderful eco-retreat with stylish, exquisite guest houses and gardens, and hosts who are attentive to every detail. I stayed for 4 days in July and experienced a delightful and relaxing escape. The grounds are filled with beautiful flowers and plantings, and include outdoor sitting areas, a small pool to escape from summer heat, a hammock, a large indoor room for group activities such as yoga, a guest kitchen/dining area, guest recreation and sitting room, and an outdoor barbecue area. The location is very accessible to Urubamba proper, Machu Picchu, Cuzco, and hikes into the surrounding mountains. Casa Colibri is especially vegetarian friendly. The hosts (Robert and Barbara) are very warm, personable, and welcoming, are very knowledgeable of the area, and look after you like family versus a 'guest'. The food is made fresh. All-in-all I could not ask for more.

This is a great place to tour from. Barbara and Robert (owners/hosts) treat you like family; they are quite familiar with all the Peruvian sights in the area and in the nearby Sacred Valley that might be on your list of places to visit. They are great chefs; their menu is quite varied and they respect various dietary requirements. The gardens are wow-some! You are dure to get lost among the paths that wind around the property. And make sure you plan at least one day to just chill out amongst the garden paths, the plunge pool, hang out in a hammock, have one of Barbara's pisco sours, and learn about the history of Casa Colibri. I'm quite sure you will be sorry if you don't.

We had such an amazing time at Casa Colibri. First of all, it is stunningly beautiful - the incredible garden and view of the mountains over Urubamba - hard not to be relaxed in that setting. We stayed here for 2 nights and did not want to leave at all because it was so incredibly peaceful. As if it couldn't get any better, the food is amazing. Barbara makes it fresh from the garden. All organic, sustainably grown, healthy delicious meals. The owners, Barbara & Robert are just about the nicest people you will ever meet. The rooms are pretty basic, but clean and nicely appointed. I would highly recommend staying here over one of the big hotels. You really can't beat it. Another pretty cool thing is that you can walk right out the front of the casa and take a hike up to some very interesting ruins on the mountainside. Unfortunately, my boyfriend broke his ankle, so we weren't doing any hiking, but if I had more time there I would have left him at home and hiked up there myself. The Sacred Valley is a very special place, I would seriously recommend spending a few days there - not just blasting through it on your way to Machu Picchu. Thanks Robert & Barbara! Sincerely, Katie & Kevin

I`ve just returned from the Sacred Valley and had one nights stay (I wish it had been more!) at Casa Colibri, `house of the hummingbird`. I haven`t before felt passionate enough about an experience to write a review online, but in this case I just had to, as it`s a hidden gem!

Casa Colibri was built (quite stylishly I might add) and it`s colourful gardens lovingly nurtured to maturity, by the dedicated couple Robert and Barbara. They welcomed me with open arms into their stunningly beautiful grounds, nestled among the mountains, and I left feeling like I`d be in paradise. From the moment you walk through the gate into the peaceful haven of the garden, through the night spent in the most comfee bed yet in Peru, to the morning when you awake to hummingbirds feeding from the plants, and onto breakfast of homemade treats...this ecolodge is homely and wonderful!

If you are looking for somewhere a bit special to recharge the batteries, have a total relax and you love nature, then you wont be sorry about your decision to stay here!

Casa Colibri provided a most refreshing respite. We loved the friendly staff and their commitment to eco friendly lifestyle, the lush gardens, and the home made healthy meals. The environment is most conducive to complete relaxation - clean fresh air, views of magnificent green mountains, and peaceful sounds of birds, especially the flutter of hummingbirds. The owners Barbara and Rob were attentive to all our needs and made the stay most enjoyable and memorable.

I would recommend Casa Colibri to everyone and anyone who is looking for a joyful stay in El Valle Sagrado. Apart from your excursions to the surrounding area, I recommend scheduling in some down time in order to enjoy all that Casa Colibri has in store. The gardens are exquisite as as the animals that live in them, including bees, a bunny, and of course, the magical hummingbirds (los colibríes) from which they named the place. Breakfast is included each morning and they serve you right in their lovely kitchen/dining room. I also recommend the dinners because they are cultural and tasty! Barbara and Robert, the owners and creators, are the kind of people you must meet in this world. Barbara's electric creativity can be seen upon entering the Yoga room she designed, not to mention the endless gardens. Roberto's kindness stretches beyond measure - he really made us feel welcomed right from the start. They also are bilingual, and we had a blast mixing both English and Castellano as we conversed. This not your typical hotel, this is a place to relax and experience the magic of the Sacred Valley.

Oasis of peace in the Sacred valley between Cusco and the Matchu pichu
Barbara and Robert are excellent hosts, they treated us for dinner and breakfast in their own house. The garden is filled with 100's of plants and flowers from which humming birds and flying bugs, butterflies feed themselves. The rooms are very clean, the environment is quiet
Their Project for an eco lodge is remarkable, they also provide work to the neighbors and teach english to the teenagers in order to help them find jobs in the fast growing tourism activity.

We have created a series of thriving organic kitchen and flower gardens hosting wildlife from hummingbirds and parrots to bees and butterflies! Special interest groups are more than welcome... Our yoga groups appreciate the purpose-built meditation room and the tranquility of the gardens, and foodies always leave wishing they'd booked a longer stay :)Above all Casa Colibri aims to be a relaxing and homely base, from which to explore all the wonderful sites around the Sacred Valley. ... more   less
