“Stunning location but a Peruvian theme park”
Reviewed June 10, 2010

With an ultra modern sophisticated entrance, I was expecting the room to be the same. However, it was more oriental with overblown decoration on the headboard - not to my taste. Although the hotel location is stunning, our room overlooked the next accommodation block and we had no view of the surrounding mountains. The bathroom had a huge whirlpool bath which was fun to bathe in but was covered in small flies the next morning which had to be dispatched before we could shower. The connecting door between the bathroom and bedroom was glass letting light in the bedroom during night time trips to the bathroom and waking room mates.
The bar food was good and plentiful - we didn't eat in the restaurant.
There is a huge spa and I got a good manicure. The fitness centre looked well equipped but it’s a shame the swimming pool isn't heated.
As for the rest of the hotel, there is an art gallery, museum, cinema with popcorn vendor, church, fishing pier, peacocks, lamas and an orchid house. It feels as if they are trying a bit too hard to please everyone rather than letting the beauty of the surroundings speak for themselves. I'm also not sure why they think it’s necessary to play piped music outside the rooms (and which can be heard inside them).
A word of warning - leave the high heels at home. The polished floor is lethal - I slipped over and still have the bruises on my posterior over a week later!

We stayed at the Aranwa hotel 5 nights in the River Suite. It is everything that you read about. Although we did not take advantage of the complimentary breakfast, we did eat in the dining room 4 of the nights that we were there. Every night the food was good and the service was excellent. I did ask for the "vegetarian" menu which gave us more selection and a lower dining bill. They also have a local musician that comes in and plays music for the guests from around 7 pm on. It adds a nice little local flavor to dinner!

While walking around on the grounds, you feel completely safe. The gates are always closed and locked unless one of the "guards/attendants" opens it for the taxis. We spent several hours just exploring the place at our leisure.

Our room was clean, contemporary, luxurious and it had PLENTY of hot water for the jacuzzi. It was quiet and relaxing. No noise from any of the rooms nearby. We did experience the WI-FI problem. Most of the time here we were unable to connect. So, we just took a walk to the Business Center and hopped online there to check e-mails and print out anythiing we needed.

After "roughing" it during the days at Machu Picchu (yes, you can get there and back in one day), Ollantaytambo, Moray Depressions and the Salt Mines, it was nice to spoil ourselves in the wonderful, peaceful, beautiful, clean setting of Aranwa.

Beautiful setting, great service, amazing suites....try the "river suites"....an unforgettable experience...
Amazingly big, I prefer smaller hotels....

The only down side would be that the exchange rate they use is out of reality. At that moment the exchange in the banks was 2.85 Soles = 1 US$ and the exchanged the US$ at 3.00 soles.....and the only charged you in Soles when use you credit card. That doesn't leave a nice feeling !

We stayed here for 3 nights on our way to MP. This an oasis in Urubamba. Spacious room and nice amenity. We used the spa for a 90 mins massage and it was good, but not great. The spa facilities looks to be first rate. We ordered room service twice, the food was average and a bit pricey. Breakfast buffet was included for 2 per room, though, they charged $30/per day extra for my kid, which was way too expensive. At check out they agreed to cut it half, which was $15, but that was still too much for what they offered. Wireless internet didn't work in our room. Overall, it was a very nice stay. We would stay here again.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate your comments on the rooms and spa facilities. We are training our staff constantly and apologize for you not getting an excellent service within the spa and gastronomy.

The breakfast pricing was a mistake on our end, and the corrections have been made within the hotel. The 2010 price for a children's breakfast not included in room price is $8 + taxes.

Because of the hotel's location amidst the valley's mountains, we are working towards improving the wireless internet signal, strength, and speed throughout the entire property. The central areas, such as lobby, bars, restaurants and casona all have excellent signal.

We hope to see you again, and once more, apologize for the inconveniences that made your stay less than stellar.

In good health,

Gabriel Alvarez

We loved Aranwa as soon as we walked through the front gate. It felt like we had been transported outside of Urubamba to another world. Everything was just perfect. The rooms are spacious and super clean. The attention to detail was amazing. Most people stay here on their way to Machu Picchu but we feel Aranwa should be a destination all its own. We spent hours roaming around the grounds finding new things to see at every turn.
The free breakfast buffet has something for everyone. We suggest the omelets! We did not eat at the restaurant so we can't say how it was. A free spa treatment is included in the price and it was fun. The spa is beautiful and very luxurious but quite new age. We found that sitting outside gazing at the gorgeous mountains and contemplating God's creation was even more relaxing and calming than the spa!
We didn't want to leave but we had to! We'll be back some day.

I stayed there with a small group of friends and we had the best time of our holidays! We regret it was only a night but we tried to enjoy of our time there as much as possible.
The day we arrived, there were few guests besides us so we felt the place was only for us, we had a good time at the jacuzzi (the pool was too cold in the afternoon) and tried some good coctails. Later, while some of us took the 20 minutes free massage included in the rate, others booked the spa services. The spa is huge with a long list of different treatments and services. Prices are high but worthy.
Now, the rooms!. We stayed in the Colonial section and found that each room had unique details like paitings, furniture or the bathroom's tiles and mosaics. The beds were so comfortable and the whole room was so well decorated and warm that we felt like at home.
On the other hand, bathrooms were totally modern but still keeping some colonial details like the mirrors or some ornaments.
The hotel has a cinema inside. That night only two of us attended to watch the movie and not any other guyest but the staff was so nice that they open the cinema and even made pop corn just for 2 people!
The breakfast next morning was absolutely delicious.
Aranwa is sourrounded by gardens and you hear the sound of the river and birds everywhere, the views were amazing with those huge green mountains around. If you are looking for a relaxed time, a break during your holidays, this is the perfect place but I would suggest you to stay a at least full day here so you can enjoy of all the facilities and the spa!
After our stay, we constantely think to go back and when I'm streessed, I think in Aranwa!!!

We used this as our "base" as we explored the Sacred Valley. The hotel was beautiful, our room was very comfortable. It's a short cab ride to Urubamba for dinner. We enjoyed our stay here immensely. The breakfast was good, a wide variety that changed daily and it was so relaxing to enjoy a pisco sour at the bar after a day of exploring the ruins. The two alpacas that live at the hotel are friendly and adorable.
