Being a frequent business traveler, it is somewhat hard to impress me with hotel rooms. But the rooms at Aranwa were very nice - high ceilings, spacious, and large bathroom area with rain showers and huge tub with jets. One of our group had altitude sickness the first night, and the hotel doctor was very helpful in treating her with first massage and homeopathic remedies and then oxygen and traditional medication. She recovered by the next day and we were able to take part in the activities arranged by the hotel, which included river rafting and day trips to ruins and shopping. The staff and guides were very friendly and knowledgeable with good command of English (we have minimal Spanish skills). If you're interested in shopping, go directly to Chinchero, as the quality of goods is significantly nicer than Pisac or Ollantaytambo. The town of Chincero is also very scenic, and you will see guinea pigs under the stove here, which we didn't see anywhere else but which is supposed to be characteristic in the area. The ruins at Ollantaytambo are pretty neat, though, so that would be a good reason to go there. Try to see the salt plains at Salineras and the Maray ruins are also interesting. Property grounds were spectacular, and we all loved this hotel - highly recommend it!

January 2012, we took a room in the Old Hacienda Block, it was extremely nice and comfortable, the service was very good and there were very few guests at the time. This July (2012) we went back, for we enjoyed it so much, and we brought some relatives with us. We enjoyed it even more for the company and we stayed longer in the hotel. We visited the surrounding town and we went fishing to the Urubamba (we didn't catch anything but it was fun). You may visit the Gallery and the Flower Nursery. But the food is so good in this place that you don't have to go anywhere else.

I'd go again this year if I got the holidays.

Room Tip: Look for the Old Hacienda Rooms, they were under renovation in this last visit but they were great i...

One of the nicest places we stayed in Peru. It reminded us somewhat of Canyon Ranch. this peaceful oasis in Sacred Valley was just perfect. Our son had altitude sickness in Cusco. Going to the Aranwa here helped tremendously. The extraordinary helpful hotel staff had oxygen ready and helped him. In a few hours he was fine and was off exploring this magnificent place. Our rooms were wows -- spacious with high ceilings, modern bathrooms, great showers and amenities. Comfortable, ver clean. Beds were big and comfy. The restaurants were wonderful. We had great food and lovely service. I had a wonderful 70-minute massage at the spa which was just perfect. The grounds were spectacular. Instead of touring the next day, my youngest and I stayed back and used the gym, wandered around the private courtyards, saw the birds , and just relaxed. Great breakfast buffet with omelets made to order. This is a really fabulous place! We all loved this place and would highly recommend it!

Room Tip: All rooms are good. Try to get one with a private courtyard. The property has lots of Peruvian art t...

My husband and I stayed in room 101 for one night and would never return. There were 3 problems:

1. There was no heat in the two-stores suite. Despite being assured by staff that the thermostat was set to keep the suite at 22 degrees centigrade, we woke up at 3 am to find the room at 12 degrees and were unable to get back to sleep, as the hotel staff was unable to rectify the problem. Losing a night's sleep before your first and only visit to Machu Picchu is definitely not cool;

2. The ensuite bathroom was inadequately vented and this resulted in a sewer gas smell which permeated the bedroom. Our sense is that management was aware of the problem, as the window in the ensuite had been left open, but not the window in the other bathroom. We closed the window when we went to bed to keep the cold and mosquitos out and the smell was overwhelming when we woke up;

3. The bedroom had floor to ceiling glass windows without curtains or blinds. A canopy bed with a white curtain was supposed to provide adequate darkening, I suppose, but the curtain had no blackout backing and the light flooded the room at 5:30 in the morning.

Perhaps the worst part of the story is that the hotel staff were neither skillful enough to resolve the problems nor sincerely apologetic. Moreover, we sensed they were aware of the problems, or at least aware of the bathroom- venting problem and assigned us to the room anyway....really not impressed and would NEVER go back

Room Tip: Avoid room 101

Beautiful, lush and expansive property in a quiet location in the Sacred Valley. Booked a suite, got a chalet! 2 full floors of impeccable contemporary design with floor-to-ceiling windows framing the forest and river outside, fireplace, living/dining/kitchenette and a gorgeous master bathroom. Can't say we've used the dining/kitchen area but it was nice feeling like we were in a beautiful home for a couple of days.

Got exceptional service from Joel who arranged (and lead) a very enjoyable 3-hour bike ride around the property, visiting a couple of small villages. He was very professional and his comments during the ride were thoughtful, personal and genuine - he made us feel we were visiting this beautiful region with a local friend who is proud and humble of his heritage. That afternoon we spent 3 hours in the Spa in the gorgeous 'couples room' - absolute heaven! haven't seen anything like it beore. Dinner, both food and service, was excellent.

A couple of points which explain the 'very good' rating (instead of 'excellent'):

- it was very cold in the room (about 14-15C) despite the heater which was not blowing hot air. Did not feel it at night though thanks to the absolutely great bedding but were cold the rest of the time. Heater was fixed the next day.

- as mentioned in some of the reviews, the resort was pretty much deserted during our stay (we were the only ones dining 2 nights in a row in the enormous restaurant room). While that helped in getting good sevice and personal attention, it did contribute to a dampened atmosphere.
