This was our second stay at an Explora property. The property, rooms and food is without a doubt top rated. What makes Explora properties so special are the day trips included in the price of your stay (except Machu Picchu). You get to explore Peru not normally available to most travelers. Their guides are wonderful, and really work to make everything run smoothly. If you like active vacations, then going to an Explora property is a wonderful choice.

Room tip: There are no bad rooms!

We stayed 5 nights. The concept of an all inclusive price with excellent food, wine and accommodation paired with a wide choice of a activities each day is excellent. We did many hikes as well as mountain biking. The trip to Machu Picchu worked very well. We very much enjoyed the the excellent Peruvian meals every lunch and dinner. Explora states that there is a difference between refinement and luxury, and it comes across really well in this hotel.

This is our second stay with Explora (previously staying at Patagonia in 2016). Explora has perfected the art of exploration and Sacred Valley lived up to and exceeded our expectations. The guides helped us to craft an itinerary that allowed us to gradually acclimate to altitude while also seeing all that the Sacred Valley has to offer. The guides were friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the culture and beauty of the valley. Each day was a delight. We were overwhelmed by the extent and majesty of Incan ruins in the area.

We were also pleasantly surprised with the food. We had some truly incredible dishes and most everything was fantastic. It took me 2 dinners to figure out that the "carne" option of the day was a fairly basic (and a bit bland?) meat, starch & salad option - likely targeted to less adventurous travelers. Not bad, but just boring. The other dishes were fantastic and so beautiful. I didn't realize that there were so many varieties of edible flowers! The servers were attentive and friendly. Many of them knew us by name at the end of our trip.

Our one main complaint was the music - there are some really terrible South American remakes of American songs and we heard them over and over. On a few afternoons, we were treated to what felt like more traditional Peruvian instrumental music.

My wife, daughter and I visited Explora for nearly a week at the end of August/early September. Our primary goal was to tour Machu Picchu, hike, bike a little and generally enjoy the Andes. But in addition to its natural, beatific setting, the Sacred Valley offers a trove of cultural and historic treasures. With its knowledgeable and caring staff, Explora offers the perfect home base to immerse yourself in all the region has to offer.

With only 51 rooms, guests can feel as if the property is dedicated exclusively to catering to your personal needs and desires. (Indeed, observing I and my daughter to be suffering from colds, our servers offered 'off the menu' chicken noodle soup to aid our recovery.) The food is locally sourced, delicious and artistically plated. Photographing our dishes became part of our daily meal ritual. Rooms are elegant and comfortable; the staff is efficient and wonderfully caring.

Explora offers excursions for all activity and fitness levels - from hikes and bike rides requiring expert levels of skill and fitness to overland excursions requiring stamina only for relatively short walks. The day trip to Machu Picchu and hike to the Sun Gate was nothing short of spectacular, with interesting anecdotes and detailed history provided by our knowledgeable local guide. Explora's guides also make Cuzco, Moray, other Inca ruins, the Salt Mines and the Urubamba River Valley special destinations.

We strongly recommend reading Kim MacQuarrie's 'Last Days of the Incas' before or during your visit - it will bring the area's history to life and provide in-depth meaning and context to your visit.

Excellent place to stay and amazing trip options. Immaculately well kept grounds and Inca walls. The whole lodge is stunning. I would highly recommend the lodge. The staff was very attentive to all our needs and were amazing.

Room tip: Incredible views and nice layout.
