Perfectly acceptable hostal. Hot water a bit of a misnomer (lukewarm) and we weren't provided with soap, beds very hard. But all in all, simple and clean and views from front rooms were fantastic. Breakfast was nourishing - cereals, fruits, pancakes.

We stayed here for one night prior to our trek to Machu Picchu and even that was too long!! There are no showers on the trek so I was looking forward to a final hot farewell shower...this was not to be! the water only got up to a lukewarm temp and the pressure was like a mosquito pissing. When we asked to move rooms she refused and we and argued with us in spanish. The room is very basic - no tv and very hard small bed. Breakfast was not much better - basically jam and bread. It was an unhappy start to Machu Picchu not to mention the front desks rude attitude towards us

Inexpensive hotel, but basic. We were glad that we stayed there only one night because we found it depressing. It would not have taken much to make the place much more welcoming: some bright paint, cheerful bedcovers, etc. The hotel also has a patio that is not used to its best advantage because it is only a passing-through area. Still, good things must be said about breakfast, which was included in the price and was more than the standard continental one. The pancakes were delicious and the staff friendly.

After the Hostal Las Orquideas apparently lost our reservation (no apology, by the way, and I'm back in the US looking at their confirmation in my email), we walked down to the Hostal Munay Tika in hopes they would have a room. They did, and it was fantastic!

Impeccably clean, magnificent showers (water pressure and heat, oh my!), plenty of storage and a great location. Not to mention the abundant and freshly prepared breakfasts (pancakes, cereal, bread, fruit...).

Now, we were 3 young budget travelers, but Munay Tika totally exceeded our expectations.

Also, they did some laundry for us (a bit pricey at S./ 8 a kilo), but they did a great job (I spilled a Brazil Nut Curry on my pants-- and anyone that has ever spilled curry knows how impossible that is to get out!).

We stayed here for 2 nights and for 2 nights at the Las Orquideas, which is right next door. I thought the 2 places were about the same in quality, but I liked Munay Tika a bit better, although my teenage kids liked Orquideas better. They are both simple country places with fairly comfortable accomodations.

The rooms are cheery, but spare. The beds are comfortable and there are adequate lights next to the beds. Our rooms were quiet, but I could see how some of the rooms on the front by the road might be noisy.

The breakfast is good and there is a good restaurant across the street.

I would recommend spending more time in Ollantaytambo than in Cuzco. Ollantaytambo makes a great jumping off point for visiting Machu Picchu for the day. In fact, it is much better for this than Cuzco as it is 2 hours closer by train and there are many more trains througout the day. You can easily have a full day in MP and avoid the rush of crowds from Cuzco.

Also, there are a lot of great day trips in the Sacred Valley that are easy to do form Olly. We went mountain bike riding and hiking. There is also horse back riding and river rafting. We used the KB Tambo agency in the square and they were very professional and friendly.

We had booked this hotel knowing that it was basic and organised a driver with the hotel to collect us. He took us via several tourist places and thought this was through a scenic route only to have to pay far more for it than originally agreed. I arrived feeling very sick and the reception brought up cocoa tea but alas this didn't help. I was given a pick of a room at the back which looked very dingy and I picked one at the front. Iasked if it was noisy but told only when the trains run. We were awoken at 5am with the first of the trippers to MPalso hotel guests staying in the hostel wearing heavy boots vibrate across the floor boards as they leave .
Olly is good really for one night the cafe Hearts has good fare also the hostal diagonally opposite has good food. I would stay again but definetly not on the front.

My husband and I stayed at the Munay Tika for one night after a tour of the Sacred Valley on our way to Machu Picchu.

Location:
The location of the Munay Tika is pretty good. It is about half way down the long road to the train station. You can walk to the ruins (and the market that’s always set up at the entrance) or one of the other main plazas in about 10 minutes. The train station is about 10 minutes the other way at the end of the road. Also, there is a rushing river just across the street from the hotel that adds some nice ambiance to any walking you may have to do too and from the hotel.

Rooms/Property:
Our room was sort of small, but it had a very good bed. It remined my of a memory foam bed from hotels in the states. We also had a full bathroom and an armoire for our bags. The property in general is very beautiful. There is a courtyard just past the lobby that is wonderfully landscaped and very well maintained.

Service:
The main person we interacted with was the owner, Silvia(?). She was who we checked in with and who was always at the front desk when we came into the lobby. She was very nice and really tried hard to make sure we had a good stay in Ollantaytambo. We did an overnight trip to Aguas Calientes/Machu Picchu after our one night at the Munay Tika and we were able to store our large backpacks in their locked storage room while we were gone (due to the space/luggage limitations on the Backpacker train to AC) for no charge. She made sure our bags were locked up and remembered exactly which ones were ours when we came back to pick them up.

Value:
The value of the Munay Tika was good. The location and helpfulness of Silvia were the strong points of this hotel. Plus, the free continental breakfast also added to the value.

Cleanliness:
The room and hotel grounds were very clean and well maintained. We were only there for one night, but when we were leaving to catch the train to MP it looked like the rooms were all in the process of being cleaned.

Dinning:
The Munay Tika only has breakfast available on their property, and it as very good. We had fruit and rolls along with coffee, juice and tea. A usual breakfast line up for this area of Peru. There was not a restaurant on the property for dinner (although groups could reserve a large room for dinner, but I’m not sure how much that cost and what food was available); however there was a great option for lunch/dinner directly across the street. We ate dinner there and had one of our favorite meals of our trip.

Overall:
Overall we enjoyed our stay in the Munay Tika and would definitely stay there again if we ever go back to Peru.
