“great location, good value, clean”
Reviewed November 5, 2011

We stayed here one night after hiking and birding at Abra Malagra. I was concerned that it would be noisy as it is close to the train station (about two blocks away). It was very quiet, no traffic at night. It was easy to walk to all of the village and the ruins from here and many good restaurants are nearby.

The room was spartan but clean and cozy. The staff were helpful and watched our bags at times when we went out before the train trip.

Stayed at the Munay Tika for a few nights as part of a tour group. Hotel room has ample hot water for showers and lots of warm blankets for the beds. Other than that, not a lot to say for the rooms--lobby has WiFi and cable TV. Hotel is in multiple two story buildings, if possible avoid rooms in the "A" building which is along the street and above the lobby. There is also a resident cat that is sometimes around the lobby and restaurant.

A hot breakfast was included and available early, including juice, coffee, cereal, pancakes or eggs, bread and fruit.

Note that Ollantaytambo is a main starting point for the train to Machu Picchu. The hotel isn't that quiet and other tourists may be up at 5am or earlier to catch the train. There is a fair amount of tour bus traffic running right past the hotel until later in the evening when things get quiet.

Room Tip: Avoid the "A" building facing the street.

Good choise near Machu Picchu (train station 300m), quiet place and an intersting city, in the morning and in the evening ( many buses 1pm-4pm).Visit quietly the Inca's fortress before 12h.Thake time to visit the village. You will find restaurants, just good but take a drink at the Quechua Blues Bar : good atmosphere.Aguas Caliente : artificial, too many tourists.

I was booked here by a travel group while the rest of the group hiked Inca Trail. I found the place charming, especially the soothing sounds of the nearby river. Enjoyed leisure time in the common patio area overlooking the river. My room was basic, I liked the bed. There was an electrical short of some sort in the overhead light that caused it to flicker on and off all night. I slept through it OK - others might have felt it warranted a room change. I was glad to see they were using CFLs! The breakfast at 4:30 am prior to heading to Machu Picchu was about the best I had in Peru! Not much reason for one to spend more than one night in this town, and this hotel is suitable. I didn't notice train noises, but I wasn't around much during daytime.

So so place by looks, not good value for money...the most incredible thing about staying here..with only 2 other rooms occupied that night was that the other guests were in the room above and you could hear every single footstep....

On speaking to the manager the only comment was...."it is a known problem"....

Dont stay here!

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was average. The room was comfortable and clean and had 3 single beds in it. However, the place only provides guests with bath towels and no hand towels. We were in room 201A, just above the office, and the bathroom door would not close properly. The hotel knows this because they provided a rock to put against the door. Even then it wouldn´t properly close. The window in the bathroom had a gap in it at the bottom and we had to stuff plastic bags there in order to get privacy as people passed by it going to their rooms. There was no tv in the room, however there was one in the lobby. There were no computers for the guests to use, however there were internet places within walking distance of the hotel. It was only $35 a night so I don´t think we could expect a lot for that.

Perfectly acceptable hostal. Hot water a bit of a misnomer (lukewarm) and we weren't provided with soap, beds very hard. But all in all, simple and clean and views from front rooms were fantastic. Breakfast was nourishing - cereals, fruits, pancakes.
