Great option to sleep before going to Machu Pichu. Good value for money, comfortable bed and clean. Breakfast is included. Located walking distance from the plaza de armas and arqueological site. From the garden you can get amazing view of the sky full of stars.

This is perfect way to inject yourself into Ollantaytambo, a living Inca city. Louise and her staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are very comfortable, and what you read about the showers is true! Unlike the backpacker hostels, this is a few minutes from the central plaza, right up against the mountains. Many people make Ollantaytambo a stopover on the way to Machu Picchu; for me it was a destination so it was important to find a place like this to relax.

From beginning to end our 3 day stay here has been wonderful. Once I had made online reservations I corresponded several times with Louise (the owner) by email. She was extremely helpful in arranging for our transport from the Cusco Airport to Ollantaytambo at a very reasonable price. She was also very helpful answering other questions that I had as I was setting up our trip itinerary. My jaw dropped when I actually saw the hotel. Others have already commented on its tranquility, its location up a cobbled narrow street and the lovely grounds. The rooms are good sized, beds are comfortable and the breakfasts hearty. Also, as others have mentioned, the views of the Incan ruins from the hotel are awesome. If you are traveling in this area you can't go wrong with a stay here!

We stayed 2 nights in Apu Lodge.A little hotel, very nice surroundings, we especially loved the walk from the main plaza. The breakfast was good although be aware that it can be overcrowded if everyone decide to eat at the same time. There is not enough tables. WIFI is working fast. There is no tv in the room. We have washed our clothes, it cost 5soles per kg. Everyone speaks English I believe the owner is Scottish. We had room on first floor -amazing view on the taraces, the place is so magical in the early morning hours. Bed was comfortable, hot water, we asked for the radiator as I was feeling a bit cold. Generally very pleased with Apu Lodge, wouldn't mind to stay there again. It is a good base to go to MP, Moray, Salinas

Room Tip: If you want have good view ask for the room upstairs, if you want to have easy access to the garden...

Thanks for your review, I am glad you enjoyed your stay. Since then we have opened up a new breakfast room with more tables. It was very unusual for us to run out of room but now it wont happen at all!

Off a quiet, pedestrian-only, cobblestone street, the Apu Lodge is lovely and comfortable. Beautiful garden and grounds; view of Incan ruins from the rooms (see pic); nice common/dining area with good internet; tranquility; good breakfasts. Louise (owner), Ruth (front desk) and Andrew (helping out when I was there) were welcoming hosts. Couldn't ask for anything better.

The town of Ollantaytambo is a great base for exploring the valley and visiting Macchu Picchu. It has loads of charm and some good places to eat. Only an hour-and-a-half from Macchu Picchu, it's a far better alternative than staying up at Aguas Calientes.

Thanks, Louise and Apu staff, for a fabulous first stop on our Peru trip!

Room Tip: We stayed in the twin room at the far end of the second floor. It was quiet and comfy and offered go...

I don't know why more people don't spend the night before going to Machu Picchu in Ollantaytambo, and they should spend that night at the Apu Lodge. The grounds are beautiful, backed up right against ruins. The room was very cute with a large comfortable bed and a powerful shower, The staff speaks english and happily will help arrange transport or tours. The town itself is a gem, a rare relatively untouched Incans city with stone streets and walls. A great place!

Ollantaytambo, the town, is a tiny precious stone (somehow and luckly a bit forgotten by massive tourism), and Apu Lodge is a really nice place to stay and enjoy it. The rooms are ample, beds are very confortable, owners and employees are extremely kind, breakfast is very nice (fruits, cereals, yogurt, eggs). It is the best base to go to Machu Picchu, since prices at Aguas Calientes, are by far much more expensive. You can take an early train and get back in the evening (1h45min each way). In additon, Ollantaytambo deserve its own stop: calmly and peacefully enjoy the town an the impressive Inca temple in there.
