This is one not to miss...although there are a lot of steps, it's worth visiting on the way to Machu Picchu. The views are amazing and this is the one site that remains unfinished by the Incas so it's possible to see how they constructed everything. Can be hot in the afternoon and quite busy.

The ruins have a lot of steps so i suggest you go early before the rush, but once on top the views are amazing, the terraces that go all the way down are in perfect condition, the houses and the unfinished parts are all still there a must see for inka stone work

Much more accessible than Machu Picchu (but not as grand and breathtaking), these ruins are quite beautiful, nestled in the mountains and surrounded by a local village - people still living as the Incas did hundreds of years ago (but with more modern conveniences). The history is very interesting, our guide helped bring the site to life with stories of the Inca battles against the conquistadores.

Although it is a hike to the top, it is really worth the climb - especially the gargantuan temple built with pink granite quarried from miles and mountains away. The Inca were incredible builders and engineers, very attuned to nature. The view from the top is fantastic (but I felt like that at every Inca site). Remember to bring water with you everywhere, and healthy snacks to keep your energy up!

Do it! Second only to Machu Picchu on any vacation to the Cusco area. One good option is the day long Sacred Valley Tour out of Cusco with Machu Travel Peru. Take your time hiking to the top. The altitude left me huffing and puffing. Hiking boots/shoes on this trip (and a good raincoat at the ready) were worth while given the many uneven/rough/wet surfaces. The views from the top (including a glacier and Inca quarry not visible from the base) are worth it. As is the sun temple.

It was a lot of steps but the views were well worth it. I had a private guide and the history was interesting.
