It was a lot of steps but the views were well worth it. I had a private guide and the history was interesting.

A fascinating and wide-spread temple which is unmissable on any Inca-themed holiday, or if you're in the area. It is also possible to get a joint ticket to see this and other temples in the area.
It is worth hiring a guide to understand the far-reaching impact of this temple and neighbouring constructions. There is a lot of step-climbing involved, an essential consideration for all low-altituders, but the views and the history make it all wholly worthwhile. Wonderful.

We stayed 3 nigths before and after Machu Pichu at El Alberque in Ollantaytambo and enjoyed .
Visited early in the morning was very peacefull. The site was great example of building skills of Incas.
The citadel, temples, store houses, water systems, terraces...Quite steep, but you get fantastic view from the top.Worth to climb. We also enjoyed to walk along the river bank. Market at the entrance was nice. The town itself also great living Incan town. The best in Sacred Valley.

A great intro to imperial and mortar style ruins. Highly recommend seeing this before or on your way to Machu Picchu.
