“Cannot say enough good things about El Albergue”
Reviewed July 3, 2010

My husband and I stayed here for four nights during our honeymoon and had such a wonderful time! The rooms were simple but beautiful with great courtyards to relax in. The staff was so helpful and hospitable. Sergio and Lluc both went out of there way to help us with anything we needed. El Albergue was a beautiful place to spend a few days exploring the Sacred Valley. There is also a wonderful restaurant attached to the hotel where we ate our best meals in Peru. Highly recommended!

We selected El Albegue based on reviews in Trip Advisor and we were not dissappointed. Sergio was very professional and helpful beginning with our on-line reservation. The hotel was very clean and comfortable with a beautiful view. The walk from the square is a bit of a hike, but you can get one of the mini cabs to take you. It is best to book a room in advance as this is not a large hotel. We also dined in the resteraunt and had a very enjoyable meal of Trout and Alpaca. I wish we could have stayed longer. Sergio, we will come back.

this is a bed and breakfast. rooms are basic but clean. the accommodation is a good 15 minute walk from town so may be too far out for some considering walking at this altitude can be tiring. the trains were not running when we were there but we imagine it could be quite noisy when the railway is operating as the platform is literally a few feet outside the bedroom window.Breakfast was included and excellent.

We planned to spend 3 nights here, but a transit strike kept us there for four; it could not have been a better place to spend an extra day. The staff is incredible -- attentive, personalble (a little humor here and there), and eager to help us in any way. I accidentally threw my money pouch (and a significant amount of money) into the laundry basket with a dirty towel, and didn't realize it until two days later. I inquired about it at reception, and it was there waiting for me to claim, cash intact. To help me rearrange my trip after the transit strike threw us off our original schedule, the staff called hotels in two different towns to shift my reservations. Left luggage? -- no problem! Could I borrow an allen wrench to adjust my tripod? -- of course! In the restaurant one morning I met the estemed archeologist Vincent Lee, who has done significant work in Peru, including discoveries at and the first mapping of Vilcabamba (he was in the process of creating a documentary on Inca building techniques for the Nova TV network). Sergio delighted in helping my niece learn a few Spanish words, and charmed her with impish little pop quizzes whenver he saw her. My niece accidentally left her 'security pillow' at the hotel when we moved on to Pisac, at the other end of the valley. I couldn't believe what the staff did to get the pillow back to her -- and after cleaning it! -- but I will let her tell that story herself, in a separate review.

We stayed here 2 nights last week (had wanted to stay 3, but it was booked). If you plan on spending some time in Ollantaytambo - - certainly recommended; it's a great village and warrants more than a 1-day tour - - this is the place to use as your home base.
It's not big and not for anyone looking for 'plush' surroundings. Think of history, character, warm woods: a simple small country inn with a phenomenal staff that help make your stay (thank you Sergio, Lluc and all others)! The rooms are simple and comfortable, tastefully decorated and full of character; the 2nd floor balcony overlooks a lovely small garden. The cozy dining room serves a hearty breakfast and wonderful and imaginative dinners. We were sad to have to leave and spend our 3rd night in Ollantaytambi in another hotel. If you can - stay here! This is truly a unique property, both in terms of the staff as well as the feeling of the place.

This hotel was probably the most charming hotel I have ever stayed at. The rooms were good. The food was good and the service excellent, also if you are in Ollantaytambo this place is a must!
