Ollentaytambo is the place to connect with the Inca past (ruins, Inca Trails, village life and people) and El Albergue is the place to stay. I always enjoy the colorful enclosed flower garden gazing upon the mountains. The quinoa salad and other chef prepared meals are wonderful. After a day hiking the Inca trail the sauna will feel great. Take the time to make a trip to a remote mountain village observing the villagers daily life. The staff will make you feel welcome helping you enjoy each precious moment. I have stayed twice before and I plan to return again.

the staff is knowledgable, charming and attentive. it is tempting to just stay within the confines of this oasis and disregard the irresisistible immediacy of the local ruins and other attractions. located next to and within a historical train depot, the albergue is a welcome rustic retreat. there is a restaurant--try the alpaca. although not on the menu, the exquisite guinea pig (cuy) and matacuy available on request. i would like to go on and on about finding a special place that is like no other place because the albergue is that and much more.

We are a family of 4 (with kids ages 8 and 6) and we stayed at El Albergue for 2 nights in April on our way to/from Machu Picchu. We loved our stay at El Albergue. The staff was incredibly warm, attentive and hospitable and made our whole family feel welcome. The food in the restaurant was fresh and delicious and the morning coffee was the best we had in Peru. Amazing place in a beautiful setting.

My wife and I had a great two nights at El Albergue during our stay in Ollantaytambo. Like many people, we stayed there before and after a day trip to Machu Picchu. We loved the hotel, the restaurant and Ollantaytambo. We stayed in room #5, the 2nd floor Double room and enjoyed the open-air feel, the nice bathroom and wonderful views of the Andes and the Inca ruins. Our room had a desk, two beds, two night stands, and a sideboard. Each day, we were given two bottles of water in the room for free.

The restaurant was fantastic and the staff could not have been more accommodating. Adela, in particular, helped me print boarding passes for a flight, arranged an early breakfast for us prior to our 6 AM departure for MP, and arranged sack lunches for our day trip to MP.

I can confidently say that this was our favorite place that we stayed on our trip to Peru. We would definitely go back again.

The Staff at EL ALBERGUE were very pleasant. They were also very accomodating to any of our requests. We had a wonderful dinner htere, the food was delicious , the sevice was excellent & the brownie with ice cream was to die for! Breakfast the next morning was fine, plenty of coffe & coca tea. The sauna was a real treat.
It is a bit of a walk to the ruins & the main part of town - uphill. While we were at El Albergue the work on the rail line had not been completed to Ollantaytambo , so also there were no taxis close to El Albergue. Perhaps when the train stops at Ollantaytambo taxis will be plentiful. The taxis were plentiful at the ruins & the town square.
Ollantaytambo is a good place to acclimate when first coming to the Cusco region, about 1800 feet lower than Cusco. & when we come back to Ollantaytambo we will definitely stay at El Albergue.

I was only here one night and it was a pleasant stay. This is a good location if you arrive and depart by train however I came by bus (while the railway was closed for repairs) so there was a 10 minute walk from the town centre which became a bit tedious. Breakfast was good.
