2 nights on the way from Cusco to MP. We had a room in the garden at the back so no train noise to speak of. Lovely room, warm, comfortable, lots of hot water, electric sockets that take American and European plugs. Breakfast wasn't the best. Juice I think was papaya, not cold and tasteless. Coffee and tea ok. Choice of hot food quite interesting, second morning I had Tacu Tacu, refried beans and rice pancake with 2 fried eggs! Yummy. Both mornings I asked for a side of bacon but it NEVER arrived!
If you have an upstairs room, don't walk round at 5am in stiletto heels as did our upstairs neighbour this morning. That's what it sounded like anyway. Inconsiderate!

We spend a night on our way to Macchu Picchu, right on the train station, ideal for the early departures...
Very nice decoration, nice food, great staff, beautiful garden. I love the cafe with direct view to the train platform. The breakfast was nice, good coffee, fruits, cereals, bread, eggs, tea, fresh juice.
Clean rooms, but no fridge (we had baby food, stored on the restaurant's fridge).

The hotel is right next to the train tracks so there is minimal anxiety about getting to the train on time. Especially when one considers that both Inca Rail and Peru Rail want you on the platform thirty minutes before the scheduled departure, which makes very little sense to the traveler.

The hotel is set in a pretty location with gorgeous plantings. The rooms are decent size but in ours it proved to be very difficult to adjust shower water temperature due to, I believe, the nature of the control valves and perhaps how the water is heated.

Breakfast was served to order and was tasty.

The one significant irritant was that the hotel adds to the published charge a mandatory 10% gratuity. Of the five hotels we stayed in on this trip, this was the only hotel to effect this practice.

The hotel ‘El Albergue’ was right on the train station. Meaning out the front doors you were on the platform of train that departs to Macho Picchu. The food here is great. The Superior Garden room had a safe and was very clean. This hotel does not have a TV. But after huge meal and a full day we were ready for bed early especially since we had a early morning train reserved for Machu Picchu.
The food there was one of our best meals. You need to make reservations. Everything was grown organically. We had an organic vegetable plater for appetizer. There were samples of different vegetables wonderfully presented and tasted great. The main course were also very tasty as was my the huge brownie I had for desert. With 3 courses and beer the meal was under 100 NS.
The complimentary breakfast was the best of all hotels we stayed at breakfast.

Our room had a wonderful view of the garden and the mountains. Was very pleasant to sit out in the late afternoon and enjoy.

We arrived at the dinner hour and enjoyed a lovely meal in the hotel dining room. Our room was quite pleasant, but we were shocked to discover that there was no hot water. We had been out in the cold and rain for most of the day and were really looking forward to a hot bath. We immediately contacted the front desk. They sent someone to investigate; he did nothing, but told us to try again in 20 minutes; still no hot water. I finally gave up and went to bed, but my husband kept persisting. After several trips to the front desk (and little action on their part), they finally gave him the key to another room where he could shower. Fortunately, by morning the water was working, so I was able to shower in the room. Apparently, they have solar heat and need to switch to electric on cloudy, overcast days. Someone had forgotten to do this. I can understand this error happening; what we can't understand is why it took them so long to figure this out. We really got the impression that they just wanted us to give up and go to bed.
They did offer to compensate us for the cost of our dinner, but when they learned that we had paid in cash, they dropped the offer.

The rooms are surrounded by a lovely garden and I wish we had had more time to enjoy this beautiful hotel. It is nicely located by the train station (we didn't hear much noise from the trains in our room). I'm sure that if we had had hot water, I would be writing a much more positive review.

Room Tip: Make sure you have hot water!!!!

This is a lovely hotel right by the train you take to Aguas Calientes which is where you take the bus to Machu Picchu. I had great reservations that it was going to be noisy due to the train but it was not at all. The rooms are on the back of the building. You walk through lovely gardens to get to them. Our room was spotless with great linens.

The restaurant was excellent at breakfast. We enjoyed our dinner but the service was not very good. It was slow and the waiter was a bit grumpy. In the evenings there is a harpist who plays and sings. It was lovely and I wish they sold cd's of the music.

One negative - this hotel is down a steep hill a bit away from the core of the town. So if you want to have dinner, see the Inca ruins, etc. you have a walk. Though it is a great excuse to use one of the many, inexpensive motorcycle taxis.
