“The Best Place To Stay in Ollanytambo”
Reviewed June 6, 2012

My sister and I stayed at El Albergue twice during my 10 day trip to Peru. The atmosphere, hotel size and convenience to the train station was worth a lot. There are only 16 rooms at this hotel so I would recommend booking early. I would also pay the extra money and book a superior room facing private gardens and the mountains. The standard rooms are ok and face the train station so it can be noisy early in the morning. The food on the restaurant is just ok and priced fairly high. The breakfast is nice.

We loved Ollantaytambo and especially El Albergue. The dinner was a bit pricey but delicious, breakfast was great and the boxed lunch we ordered to take to Aquas Calientes was perfect. The rooms were quaint and the garden was breathtaking. Felt very safe staying here with my sister and mom and the staff was outstanding. Would have liked to have stayed here two nights instead of one. Perfect location for catching the early train in the AM.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room #13. Extremely roomy, private and quiet.

Loved the breakfasts! The dinner food was a bit pricey. Also, the cab service that the hotel provides is expensive.

The garden is absolutely gorgeous. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The laundry service was very affordable and quick.

My only complaint about the room is that the heater in the room did not put out much heat.

One of the best hotels we stayed in Peru - such charm and elegance and a highly recommended adventure if you take the slightly off-the-beat route back to the hotel following the railway tracks!
Also morning coffee was a fantastic way to start the day!
Highly recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at El Albergue. This property has so much charm -- both the interior spaces and the lovely landscaped grounds filled with old trees and beautiful flowers. There is a low-key friendliness and intimacy to this place that makes you feel at home. We stayed in one of the newer rooms -- very large with high ceilings, beautiful paintings by Wendy Weeks, and a great balcony with a seating area that overlooks the old Incan terraced gardens and the mountains. The food at the restaurant is very good -- we were here for several days and enjoyed breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. The menus features local ingredient including alpaca steak (delicious) and organic vegetables from their own garden. Being at the train station gives El Albergue an exciting buzz of activity but it's also amazingly tranquil. We were sorry to leave. Highly recommended.

This was our favorite hotel during our 9 day visit to Peru. The rooms both couples got were recently redecorated, large and well furnished. Our room had in the floor heating and was in the newer building, which architectually matched the rest of this small hotel in almost all details. The grounds and gardens were beautiful. The complimentary full breakfast was great, full choice of eggs and omelettes, french toast, pancakes, homemade pastries, etc. Fabiola checked us in and helped plan our day trips.

This hotel is an absolute gem. The rooms are incredibly spacious and have such and amazing feel. From the linens, to the furniture, to the fresh cut flowers, to the balcony and chairs, everything adds to the charm of the place. We spent six nights here and easily could have spent more. Ollantaytambo is described as the prettiest town in Peru - this is no doubt the most beautiful hotel in Peru! More details/photos/slideshow are at http://fiveitchyfeet.wordpress.com/
