“Comfortable stay with a great location”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

We stayed at Hotel Sol for 3 nights and were very pleased with our accommodations. Their location was perfect. In the middle of restaurants, shops, the train station and the ruins. Incredibly ideal. The staff were always very nice and accomodating (hair dryer, extra toilet paper). They arranged for a car to take us around the local ruins (Moray, Mara, Salineras).

We had a second floor room with a balcony and chairs that faced the ruins - A-MA-ZING. The rushing river below was great to sleep to. We were there at the end of April so there was lots of water. We would tour the valley in the morning and rest on our balcony in the afternoon with the sunset over the ruins and then head out to find dinner later at night.

Loved our stay there. The wifi worked best near the lobby and we only needed to check in with the family back home once a day. I loved not having a TV as we had an opportunity to really relax.

Hot water was iffy at best but we were always clean and happy. Breakfast was alright, and you can always cross the street to Hearts Cafe for something heavier.

Would definitely stay here again if the opportunity arose.

Room Tip: If you like your outdoor space the balcony room with chairs was the best!

We stayed here for one night after camping on the Lares Trail for the previous 2 nights, we were all just pleased to have hot water and a bed.

The hotel is in an ideal location to explore Ollantaytambo with plenty of good shops and restaurants around. The hotel lobby area is very clean, bright and stylish. The staff are very helpful and friendly in achieving all your needs and requirements. The hotel offers free wifi which is temperamental at the best of times. The rooms are very big with a large shower room. In addition the room and shower room are very clean and well maintained. The rooms do not come with a tv which can be annoying after a long few days trekking and you just want to relax for a while. The hot water in the showers does not last long especially when there are a few showers on at the same time.

What great service and a wonderful location. The hotel was very charming and our window looked out over the river and the Ollantaytambo Ruins - what more can you ask for. Wait - I know - that your laundry be done in less than 2 hours ! We dropped off our laundry around 7 and it was washed and back to us before 9 - and at a great price also. They also booked us a room at another hotel on the days they were full (Hotel Samanapag-lovely also) and even made sure our luggage was transferred between the two while we were in Machu Picchu - I already want to go back.

I rate this hotel "very good" because of price/value.

Positives
- In centre, close to ruins
- Large rooms, some with nice river and mountain views
- Very friendly helpful reception staff, esp. Wilbert
- Hotel can arrange transfers to cuzco and excursions
- Good value for money
- Clean enough...

Negatives
- Hotel is not heated, very cold breakfast area (staff serving you wearing winter coats)
- No tv in room
- Limited breakfast offering

Room Tip: Rooms at river have nice view but can be noisy

We we're provided a special rate becaus we inquired if hostal Iskay had any rooms available (they didn't) but arranged for us to get a special rate at hotel sol. For the price we paid the value was great however I'm not sur I would pay the regular rate as there are plenty of less costly alternatives around. The hotel sol breakfast was good, the room was nice but didn't have a television (only one in the common room) which I would expect for the rate they charge. Rooms also lacked a fridge other than that it was a great place and the staff was fantastic.

We stayed at this hotel for a couple days during our recent trip to Peru. Not only were we happy with our service at the hotel during the stay, but as well as before our stay. The hotel was very helpful and prompt in answering our pre-trip questions, as well as arranging a pickup from the airport which was 1.5hours away. It really helped us transition in on our first day and to acclimatize.

The hotel itself is located right in Ollantaytambo, walking distance to both the main square and the Ollantaytambo ruins. We found it very comfortable and cozy, with beautiful open areas and plantlife, as well as a nice sunroom you could relax in and have breakfast overlooking the river. It is a great value for the service and location. We ended up getting the patio room, and I would strongly recommend spending the extra money to get one of those. It had the most amazing view of the river and mountains, and had chairs you could sit on your own private balcony. We loved it!

The hotel staff were very helpful and accommodating in arranging things for us while we were there, including recommending a restaurant which ended up being our go-to place and which we had some of our best meals in Peru. As well they helped arrange private transportation for us to visit the Pisac and Moray ruins.

If you are staying in the Sacred Valley area, would definitely recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Go for the patio room with the balcony, over looking the river and the mountains!

We stayed at Hotel Sol for two nights. Excellent location, next to the river and our room faced the ruins. Nice and clean and very friendly and accommodating staff. They even arranged our transportation from Cusco and a day trip around the valley then back to Cusco after our trip to Macho Pichu. Close to everything in town. Breakfast was a little disappointing.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor with outside view
