I stayed at the Albergue 35 years ago, and it has certainly transformed -- from a lovely simple hostal, and the only place to stay in town in those days, to an upscale but meticulous restaurant, which is worth going to if it fits in your budget. It is next to the train station to Machu Picchu and Cuzco which adds to the charm. The service was friendly and helpful and the gardens are lovely. The food is a great take on local foods, produce and grains, and with a good variety of both meat and vegetarian dishes.
