“Upscale but worthwhile”
Reviewed May 5, 2014

I stayed at the Albergue 35 years ago, and it has certainly transformed -- from a lovely simple hostal, and the only place to stay in town in those days, to an upscale but meticulous restaurant, which is worth going to if it fits in your budget. It is next to the train station to Machu Picchu and Cuzco which adds to the charm. The service was friendly and helpful and the gardens are lovely. The food is a great take on local foods, produce and grains, and with a good variety of both meat and vegetarian dishes.

“Charming!”
Reviewed May 1, 2014

A very enjoyable evening at this charming gem of a restaurant right on the train platform. Service was helpful and attentive. The décor is warm and inviting, decorated with original paintings by the owner's son. A harp player added wonderful background music to the ambiance. They easily accommodated our large group of 13. The food was very fresh and tasty. I had the Peruvian stew and it was perfect ... just right for a chilly evening. My only downside to El Albergue is due to its location on the train platform, the noise and odors of diesel trains can be a bit much while dining.

“Had breakfast - wish we could have had dinner!”
Reviewed April 28, 2014

We arrived too late to have dinner one evening but we were staying one night at the El Albergue Hotel so we had complimentary breakfast there.
It was very delicious. We had the usual fruits, cereals etc and a selection of basic breakfast hot meals - eggs, french toast, veggies and so on. We really enjoyed it and just wished we could have sampled another meal there.

“Unbelievable food!”
Reviewed April 28, 2014

This restaurant at the train station in Ollanta had the best food we ate in Peru and that is saying alot! Organic salads, homemade pastas, creamy soups that are not heavy but unbelievably tasty. El Albergue is so popular it's best to get a reservation but we were seated in the outer cafe and enjoyed watching the comings and goings on the train platform immensely. Best pisco sours in Peru too!!

“Delicious!”

The restaurant is very charming the the food is extremely fresh. They grow their own produce in a garden close to the hotel. The vegetables are perfection. A great meal!
