“Bistro fare”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2013

After the gastronomic challenges of trekking the Salkantay, without guide, the El Albergue restaurant was a welcome relief. The menu was simple but each dish that we sampled was exquisite. Their commitment to local and organic and their nearby chefs attempting to impress with quality and presentation, and extras, along with the quaint location by the train platform completed the Bistro like experience. The staff seemed very pleased to be working there and their pride and hospitality were exceptional.

“Great restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2013

This restaurant is quite far from the plaza but it's well worth the walk. The food is high quality, the atmosphere great and it was great value. They hade live music when we were there which was nice. A visit is definitely recommended. :)

“Alpaca/beef burgers pretty, but not the best.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2013

We both had the alpaca/beef hamburgers prior to taking the train to Aguas Calientes. The burgers were both cooked to "well done". They were large enough, but much smaller than the buns. They were beautifully presented and the cook followed my wishes with desired changes to toppings. In the description, "crispy bacon" is listed as one of the toppings. When the burgers arrived for the first time, they were topped with thick slabs of limp bacon draped over the other toppings. We sent them back immediately, asking for the bacon to be cooked more--and crispy. When we got them back, the bacon was cooked some more, but still not crispy. We both felt that the bacon added nothing to the burger. The other toppings were fresh and tasted good. The burgers themselves were fine, although I prefer mine less well done. The service was average.

Bottom line: My advice would be to leave the bacon off of your burger.

“My perfect birthday dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2013

Perfection from start to finish. There is no better place to eat in the Sacred Valley. Melt in your mouth handmade pasta and the best meal I think I've had all year.

Romantic, rustic, chic decor and a wonderful staff made our perfect evening complete.

“Wonderful food and nice atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2013

We were guests at the hotel and had dinner here (as well as breakfast as part of our hotel rate). The dinner was one of the best we had in Peru. I had a vegetarian soup and others at my table had the alpaca burger and the lamb with mint quinoa - all were very tasty. We shared a Peruvian potato appetizer that was very good also. The produce here comes from the organic farm attached to the restaurant. Great service and ambience too!
