“You should stay there”
Reviewed February 17, 2009

To be honest, if you are planning to stay at the Sacred Valley, you should really make a stop at the KB Tambo.
We really liked to stay there.
It is perfectly located nearby the ruins on the "main road".
This is a perfect place just to sit in front of the hotel and take a little rest while watching the whole spectacle passing by: cars, trucks, animals, workers, tourists - quite everything and everyone. A real nice spot.

Rooms are nice. Take care to have one either on the first floor or the 3 pax room on the ground floor. There is one normal room that is quite dark and has not a regular bathroom with toilet and shower seperated. But the rooms we had a really nice and the courtyard with the flowers is just an oasis.

Food is fantastic over there. Don't look for another place to go. Just sit in front of the hotel and eat there...

The owner was so kind to organise a transfer with a guide for us from Cusco to Ollantaytambo. I can really advice this to anybody. We had a fantastic day with Graham!

My husband and I traveled to Ollantaytambo at the beginning of November and stumbled upon this spot for budget travelers. KB and staff were wonderful. We ended up having to stay another night because of a train strike and KB arranged it all, no problem. The room we had was clean and one of the largest we stayed in while in Peru. We also had a private entrance and rooftop view of the ruins. The gardens and courtyard looks just like the pictures. KB puts on a great bike tour as well. We took the Abra Malaga tour and it was right up there with Macchu Pichu in terms of views and experiences. P.S. The trek was all downhill, not physically exhausting at all. I highly recommend this tour and hotel.

KB Tambo - Stayed for one night, hiked the ruins in Ollanta. KB did not have our room reservation when we arrived, however they put us in a nice room, that appeared very clean. The rooms were cute, the restaurant was fantastic, and the people were friendly. I'd heard many good things about "KB" himself, but he was not present, and none of the staffer spoke english. Didn't bother us, but different from other reviews. We woke up in the middle of the night to a TERRIBLE smell eminating from the bathroom. Something was wrong with the plumbing and a horrible stench came from the bathroom. And i'll qualify this - we are not picky travelers - staying anywhere from $15/night to $50/night, we expected KB to be a very nice. And it was - but the smell was extreme and pushed us out of bed. I couldn't sleep and my girlfriend almost got sick. Strange?

We stayed there about 5 nights in September. The rooms are more than adequate for $17 pp, and our showers were hot. Try to get the newer rooms and not the ones under KB's apartment. The restaurant in the hostal is easily the best we had in Ollantaytambo, and one of the better ones we had in 26 days in Peru. It is run by a Chilean man who really knows how to cook. My wife raved about the steak with blue cheese sauce. For breakfast; try the pancakes with honey and fruit. Great cafe con leche, too. We went on a 3 day bike mountain trip with KB to Vilcabamba. Only go on this trip if you are into downhill bicycling!!! The first day we did about 75 km, mostly on pavement and mostly downhill. KB provides a sag if you want to skip the flats. The second day KB took us to his favorite Inka ruins; we were the only ones there. Magical! The third day started off with a 50 km downhill on a rough dirt road. That's right, 50km. Through all sorts of little towns and a dozen climactic zones. We finished that day with the 25 km mega-avalanche downhill route which starts at almost 14000 feet. All I can say about that is, hang on to your handlebars!!! This one is not for the faint of heart. The accommodations in Vilcabamba were rustic, and KB could use some cooking lessons from the Chilean, but overall those three days were one of the highest highlights of our trip. Thanks, KB and crew!

What can we say, we had an amazing stay at KB's. We were in Peru in July and KB and his staff was wonderful to us. The rooms are so charming and very clean. There was always plentiful hot water. We stayed at total of 3 nights, and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. The village of Ollantaytambo is just wonderful, really a beautiful place to visit. The people of the village were the most friendly we have met anywhere else in the world that we have travelled.

The resturant at KB's is one of the best we have been to. The food is so amazing! What a wonderful chef. If you visit, you must try the resturant. You won't be disappointed.

Jose at the hotel was a joy to meet. He was really helpful to us.

Also, the rooftop deck is the rare chem. You have a perfect view of the ruins.

KB Tambo and Ollantaytambo is a truly magical experience. Can't wait to visit again soon. It is also a great location to Machu Picchu!!!!!!! Thank you KB!

We stayed at KB Tambo for one night around Solstice in June. We loved the location in town and there were beautiful views from our rooms. The only drawbacks were the rooms/bathrooms were quite small and we didn't find the bed too comfortable - however, I had a horrible bout of altitude sickness that night so I would have been miserable no matter what! The place was clean and we had plenty of hot water. We ate in the restaurant several times and the food was awesome! They also had great Peruvian entertainment at night and it was lively and enjoyable. Everyone we met there was nice and helpful.
There were 3 of us and we had 2 rooms for about $60 USD total. A good deal I think.
Ollantaytambo is a lovely town - full of good energy (as is KB Tambo) and gorgeous scenery.

  • Liked — proximity to town, positive vibes, good food
  • Disliked — bathroom/room pretty small, bed seemed too small for 2
