“Great location”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

This charming little Hostal is more boutique hotel than hostel so don't be fooled by the name, this is not a backpackers.

The rooms are decent sized with comfortable beds and clean bathrooms. The views are of the ruins and the beautiful little gardens. The breakfast is adequate and the staff very very helpful. Overall we were very very happy with our choice. It is also a great location, just off the main square, only a short walk to the ruins and the train station.

A perfect base for a trip to Machu Picchu.

Room Tip: Garden view on the lower level are cheaper and nicer

Stayed here with my wife for two nights while we visited Machu Picchu. Like the rest of the town the hotel had great views of Incan ruins along the surrounding hillsides.
The room however left some things to be desired. And some things I guess one has to take with the territory as Ollanta is really in the middle of nowhere. However, the wifi was basically non existent, even when I went to the lobby to use it. We purchased bag lunches to go from across the street to bring to MP. In the morning we found ants crawling all over the food. Probably our fault as the place is in the middle of nowhere but a little surprising nonetheless.
The shower was crazy! Really hot at first, then frigid. Then 2 minutes waiting without water then do it again.
great town tho

My friend and I booked this trip through the Clymb and WOW what at trip it was. The best trip ever!! The trip was well put together to see all the sites and ruins. The hotel was beautiful and clean, we had hot water. Ollantaytambo is a beautiful little city. The trek to Choque and the Llamas was awesome and we were pretty much the only ones there. There was so much to take in and the views were breathtaking.. Our guides Chet & KB made the trip all that more fun, with a shout out to Charlie. I would definitely go back.

my friend and I stayed end of July 2013. As I mentioned, the place was very homey, except that it was very cold in Ollantaytambo during our stay. When we arrived, we immediately checked if the hot water in the bathroom is working. It wasn't, but when we asked them to fix it, the guy in charge (KB was on vacation) immediately fixed it.

Location was great. That same night we arrived, we tried walking around the small town, tried finding our way to Perurail station, so that we won't have to struggle our way the morning after, coz we booked the earliest train to Machu Picchu. There were a lot of small eateries, and mini ruins since the town was surrounded by mountains. It was very laid-back.

Our room was big, located in the first floor, with three beds inside, because the guy in charge said the smaller rooms were fully booked. We paid in peso, and we weren't charged extra than agreed price via email. There's a window to see the mini garden inside the hostel, but there's not much to see anyway.

Beds are neat and warm. It is just that we are not so used to very cold temperatures that's why we still feel very cold at night.

The bar upstairs was closed, but when we requested if we can take a look, the lady happily led us to an outside gate where the stairs to the bar is located. It has obviously not been opened for a long time, but nonetheless, the view upstairs was breathtaking. :)

There's a mini restaurant in the hostel lobby, which is crowded during peak hours. Food is not bad. :)

We only stayed for two nights, but that was not enough because one day was for MP alone. the other two days included travel to and from the airport.

We, by the way, pre-arranged an airport transfer to and fro (additional payment) by email with KB. There was a problem at first, coz the driver arrived late during our flight to Cusco. We almost took a cab coz we were panicking, but anyway, the driver arrived and we reached Ollantaytambo a bit late. The transfer they arranged on our way back to the airport was also troublesome, as we waited too long for the driver to come to fetch us, we were scared we'd miss our flight back to Lima. In short, I guess it is better if you don't arrange airport transfers with them, or yeah you still can, but maybe be more strict in confirming it the night before your transfer schedule.

Overall, I love the hostel, and hopefully if my means permit, I'd stay here again when I return to MP! :)

I stayed at the KB Tambo Hostel while doing the Epic trip with KB tours. The hostel was in a great location right near the center of Ollantay surrounding by a lot of great places to eat and a couple of ruins within walking distance. It was a great base camp for the Epic and I would highly recommend using KB Tours for an excursion while in the area. The hostel staff was very friendly and the breakfast included with our stay was delicious. Great outside garden area and nice homey feel to the rooms. Great place to stay!

We stayed here for 2 nights over the festival. Not sure if the service was affected by the festival but it seemed odd that the bar and tour office associated with the hostel were both closed throughout our stay. The room was large and the breakfast was good. It felt like management were away or recently changed. Not a bad place to stay but lacked an atmosphere.

Room Tip: The double with garden view was perfectly adequate, large and comfortable.
