“Disappointing”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

Stayed here as part of an Intrepid tour. My room was very small and both windows looked out onto walkways were guests walked passed. The room and bathroom were clean. It did not include a heater which could be hired for 10 soles - I didn’t get one, but other on the tour did. It did get cold at night, but the blankets on the bed were warm enough. Definitely need ear plugs at night.

The staff seemed to be very disorganised and not very helpful. Breakfast time was a mess. They couldn’t seem to cope with the number of guest coming to breakfast at the same time and were very slow to replenish things.

While pretty basic; the room was very decent and clean. We booked a 'comfort' room which had a heater. Regular rooms don't. In May we needed it as it got quite cold at night.

The people at the "front desk" were always friendly and helpful. They arranged for our transfers from Cusco airport - everything was fine and reasonably priced.

The only criticism I have is that it gets noisy after 6:30 AM. So wear earplugs if you want to sleep in. Most people are getting up around then to head to Macchu Picchu etc.

Breakfast was basic but did the trick. I'd stay there again if in town for a night or two.

The location was perfect and close by to the Inca Ruins. Quiet hotel and very clean. Friendly staff. Great value for money.  Modern clean rooms, lovely garden area. Refreshments sold at a reasonable price.

We stayed here for one night before starting the 4 day Inca Trail trek. A very nice hotel! Our room was very comfortable and nice and quite. We overlooked the courtyard which is much quieter than the street. The shower is terrific...plenty of hot water!! Breakfast was very good.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the courtyard as opposed to the street. Much quieter!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Tikawasi Valley Hotel for 1 night.

The location was great (right by the entrance gates to the archeological sites). English communication was limited but it had the warm feel of a family-run hotel.

Hot showers were no problem for us, and shampoo/conditioner/soap/hair dryer was provided which saved my day as I had left all my stuff in Cusco.

Breakfast was a bit disappointing - small bowls of cereal, fruit punch and bread laid out for a buffet, + eggs in any style. Not quite enough for all the people congregated in the breakfast room. We ended up having a second hobbit breakfast (sandwich & buritto) at the Coffee Tree in the main square!

Although nothing to write home about, overall it was an affordable, comfortable stay right by the ruins.

Room Tip: We had a room on the ground floor facing the courtyard. I would recommend the upper floor for more q...

The location here is good as you are just next to the ruins which we could see from a corner of our window. They did not have us on the record even though I booked weeks in advance, so we were moved from room to room. The room we had for two was tiny, with towels and some head and shoulders shampoo brought in after we were in the room. No heaters or AC that we could find. It's more like crashing at your friends extra bedroom.

Internet connections really only exist in the lobby and there are no phones or TV's in the room.

Breakfast was simple and nice and coca tea plentiful. The staff is super friendly and bottled water is available by filling up your vessel for 2 soles per liter.

Other than that, you didn't come to Ollantaytambo for the room anyway right?

This was our first hotel in Peru. We stayed three nights. The location is ideal for seeing the local ruins and Machu Picchu (without having to stay overnight in Aqua Caliente).

If you go to MP I recommend booking the earliest departure and the latest return. The hotel host provided a free box lunch for MP at request which was unexpected and a nice touch. The hotel went through great trouble for us prior to arrival to book our tickets to Machu Picchu (had to wire money through Western Union). This is a messy process due to the way things are handled with MP tickets, but the hotel did a good job handling the difficulties.

The garden area at the center of the hotel was very pretty and rustic. The hotel was not fancy by any measure, but was comfortable and clean.

The hotel staff were always smiling and friendly.

The primary drawback is that the beds are firmer than I like (which seems to be the norm in Peru) and the room was pretty noisy (from the street). I'd recommend bringing earplugs.

Room Tip: If they have a room that doesn't have a window facing the street it would likely be quitter. Ho...
