Machu Picchu is just too much to believe. It was raining the day we arrived, but that did not bother us at all. It is hard to imagine people creating the buildings and steps here. Wear very comfortable shoes with a good tread, as it could be slippery, but most of all, enjoy the sights.

It is worth to get a guide to tell you a bit of the backround story to truly enjoy and understand this architectural marvel. Come early in the morning if you are already not doing the Inca trail to avoid the tourist crowds and also to allow you time to climb up to the Sun gate for the sun rise. Bring a snack and sit yourself down at the top to relax and enjoy the views and wait for the fog to lift for that perfect photo.

Macchu Picchu is even more breathtaking when standing in front of it than in photos, it is a magical place. Be aware that there is at least 2 hours of walking on steep stones so wear comfortable shoes and bring sunscreen and bug spray. It will take more energy and oxygen to go up so take your time going up. The views are exceptional. We went in early September and were very lucky to have beautiful sunny weather. Be aware that there are various ticket fees to get to Macchu Picchu, train ride, bus ride, and entrance fees. But it was definitely worth it!

Machu Picchu is truly a magical place. To make your tour there better, I HIGHLY recommend doing a hiking tour (Inca Trail, Inca Jungle Trek, etc.). The 3 day trek it took me to get to Machu Picchu was well worth it, and not very expensive. For a more affordable option, go with Lorenzo Expeditions. It was fun and enjoyable. You should take the stairs up to Machu Picchu (don't take the Bus of Shame!!), and arrive early in the morning. First gate to walk up opens at 5 am, second gate opens at 6 am. You want to get there early enough to see the sunrise over the ruins. It is such a magical place, you want to take it all in. If you are doing the Machu Picchu mountain, I recommend going right at 11am, because it is a difficult hike. The afternoon sun will make this hike very miserable if you are not in runner shape. I don't think I would have made it to the top if I did it in the afternoon sun. AMAZING view from the top, well worth the hiking exertion. Obviously, Machu Picchu is a must-see if you go to Peru. You'll regret not making time for a hiking trek- it made the whole place that much more magical.

I finally saw magic when after hiking at elevations of up to 14,000 feet, being tired and dirty and then seeing the first view of Machu Piccu-the photos don't do it justice as there is something about standing there and breathing the Inca essence...I am still awed by this trip
