We visited Machu Picchu in November of 2012. It really is a wonder of the world. We spent one day exploring the ruins of Machu Picchu and then trekking to the Inca bridge. We had a guided tour arranged by Peru for Less for the first day. The second day we hiked to the top of Huayna Picchu, where the views were breathtaking! In the afternoon we hiked to the Sun Gate. This is a trip you need to make when you have the ability to make all of the hikes, because each vista gives you a different perspective of the ruins!

It's been 8 years since I travelled to Machu Picchu but these recent travellers photos bring back great memories. Such an experience and not to be missed by anyone going to Peru or probably South America. A 10 out of 10. We travelled there by train and that was very scenic as well.

Words cannot express how beautiful this place is. The Inca´s built a city cut out of the top of a mountain, complete with temples, palaces, terraces and incorporating nature into every part of the design. Awe-inspiring, peaceful and now totally accessible to all with the train and bus components. If you are adventurous you can do the trail, if you are older or not in shape you can feel totally safe and relaxed about visiting this most beautiful place. Be sure to book everything way in advance, especially if you wish to climb the higher mountain, Huayna Picchu. We visited in mid-March at the end of the rainy season and were lucky that during the morning there was only mist and then the sun broke out. By 2pm we had rain, but it was still wonderful!

In Feb. 2013 my husband and I took a long-awaited trip called "Affordable 10 day visit to Peru" with Gate 1 Tours. Machu Picchu was the highlight of the tour and the remainder of the time was spent sightseeing throughout Peru. This was our first trip with Gate 1 but it will not be our last.

Machu Picchu was absolutely beautiful beyond words despite the fact that it poured during our entire tour. Our tour guide, who said he's led at least 650 tours to Machu Picchu, said he'd never had worse weather. We were all saturated to the skin, and cold, but few gave up on the tour. It was phenomenal. Words do not do it justice.

Our whole 10 days were phenomenal. Our Gate 1 guide Julio, made sure every detail was taken care of for us every step of the way on this entire vacation. Further, he made it look effortless and he did everything with a smile and a great attitude about everything. No matter how many times he's explained the same things to tour groups, his passion for his country and his knowledge was unmatched. He spoke as though we were the first group he was talking to. So many details and such love for his country and its people. Julio is a lifelong resident of Peru and because of it, had a knowledge gained by living in the area, not studying and rehashing. He often added personal experiences and stories. No questions were too difficult for him to handle.

Peru is gorgeous. The glacier topped peaks of the Andes mountains and the dramatic fall to lush green valleys was breathtaking. Then there were the people of Peru--so colorful and welcoming and very hard-working people. And Julio knew so many of them. Besides Machu Picchu, my favorite part of our tour was visiting the homes of native Peruvians. Never have I had a tour where we visited homes and it was fascinating. We visited at least 3 homes, all in different areas and all with different lifestyles. It was awesome having this kind of access.

Everything about this tour was exceptional. We did not take the upgraded hotel package and were a little apprehensive at what kind of hotels we may encounter, but they were all excellent. Check-ins were efficient every step of the way. We never had to handle our own luggage, it was all picked up and accounted for. Every single part of the trip was superb. We cannot say enough about Julio and our first Gate 1 experience. And we cannot wait to go on our next adventure.

This is a must see vacation sight! Nothing compares to the beauty of seeing this place in person. Pictures doesn't do justice to this amazing sight. Be sure to go early in the morning to see the clouds hovering over the mountain.
