“The last exhausted trek of the day”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

We walked from Macchu Picchu city to the Sun Gate after already having walked up to Macchu Picchu and after hiking up Huayna Picchu. This after 4 3 previous days of trekking. Still we determined to do at least some of the classic Inca Trail and approach the City as the Incas would have done hundreds of years ago. Yes, we were extremely tired but it was still worth it! I think it took us about 45 mins to get to the Sun Gate and a bit less getting back to Macchu Picchu.

“Great Hike but Look Out for the Showers!!”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

We had a blast hiking out beyond the Sun Gate, but watch the skies. We were caught in a Hellacious downpour that lasted for our entire two-mile hike back to the ruins. When wet, the rocks along the trail can be extremely slippery. NOT recommended for people with small kids.

“The Final Climb”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

There are a couple of very steep staircases (including the one that leads up to the Sun Gate), but after doing your trek, these are nothing. Especially since the destination is right at the top: the Sun Gate with Machu Picchu below. One of the most spectacular sights I have ever seen.

“Long Walk-Pick The Time”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

It is a long walk up hill to reach Intipuncu, but within the limits of anyone of average physical fitness. This trip is best done on a sunny day only; otherwise all you may be rewarded with is a lot of cloud. When fine, look back often, and take photos then, rather than believing they will be there upon return. Cloud can come quickly, and you will only have yourself to blame for the missed opportunities. At Intipuncu itself, you are further rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding valleys, and even an opportunity to rest (if the crowd has not already taken up all of the very limited space).

“Good and reasonable hike”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

Hiking up to the SunGate is a nice workout. I am afraid of heights, but had no trouble whatsoever on this trail. We took our time and waited for each other, which means it took us about 3 hours, up and down, including a good 20mins at the top. We were very unlucky that clouds blocked the view of Machu Picchu from the top and we didn't have more time to wait until they were gone. However, the views on the way up and down were spectacular!!
