Owner description: Built in the form of a circular tower on a massive slab of granite, this sacred edifice contains the famous Intiwatana, or sun dial, which the Incas used to "tie down" the sun at the winter solstice each year.

read up all about the sun's rays striking the walls of the temple on summer solistice / winter solistice. A guide is very helpful if you can have one...........

Once I was there with my mom and we were silent for a endless time. You will have a different understanding of life once you are there.

Just wonderful. How that civilization was so advanced. Wonderful place to see part of the Machu Pichu experience.

There several ceremonial temples and sites at Machu Pichhu. The story behind the Temple of the Sun was that it was used to honor and celebrate Inti, the Sun, an important Incan deity. When the sun of the winter solstice enters through the central window, it falls directly on the large ceremonial stone. The stone is protected by a wall built around it.

I love the Inca temples as they show the underlying message behind their architecture. It is one of the more interesting ruins.
