This was THE most expensive hotel I have ever stayed at and it was worth EVERY penny. What an amazing hotel in such a unique setting with 7 star service from when you get off the train in AC til u leave.
Jose at the restaurant catered to my every need and my very sensitive stomach. The menu at the restaurant is a suggestion. The staff will get you anything you want and deliver it with a smile. The solitude of the Orchid Walk and terrace was truly a sanctuary.
We loved it.

The hotel is just in front of Machu Picchu entrance. The fee include 3 meals with alcohol. Room is very comfortable with good amenity(with moisturizer) and comfortable slippers. We didn't go but, there is bath, too(moron your room). Machu Picchu citadel is quite big so, if you want to take time to see it, I highly recommend you to stay there although it costs much...

This hotel must be an embarrassment to the Belmond chain (albeit a cash-cow), as the other hotels in their chain that I've stayed in have been remarkable. If you want to get onto the mountain to see the sun rise over Mach Picchu, then this is the only place to stay. Otherwise avoid it at all costs (and what a cost!). The rooms are tiny, the bathrooms seem to have been added on as an afterthought. The furniture in the rooms is dated, but it's fair to say the beds are comfortable. A full board stay can cost over £800 a night, and if you take the Hiram Bingham train from Cusco (which I could not recommend more highly - something everyone should do once) you will not arrive in time for lunch, and as you have to check out the next day at 11am, you're effectively there for just dinner and breakfast!

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.....

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your comments in Trip advisor and helping us in improving our services. The commitment of Belmond Sanctuary Lodge is to give the best to our guests and your overall impressions about your stay are very important to us.

We are constantly working in improving our Lodge facilities. We already started a refurbishing of our public areas and rooms with new materials, furniture, with a contemporaneous decoration in order to upgrade the lodge facilities and always correspond to our guest’s expectations.

I think it is important to remind that on day time our guests usually appreciate sharing the active life of travelers visiting the ancient citadel. Also, after 5.00 pm until the next morning, our Lodge is the only place that stays in a total peacefulness, perfect moment to feel and interact with the energy of Machu Picchu ancient citadel. Also, after your check out time, our Lodge is the only one that offers the facility of an independent Day Room offering a privileged view on the magnificent surrounding mountains where our guests can rest or refresh after using our hot pond or visiting Machu Picchu until the last minute of your stay. Also, activities as Orchids tour or medicinal herbs garden discovery as well as observing our multiple humming birds are available.

I deeply value your comments and renew our permanent commitment in keeping on with all the efforts and focus to maintain the facilities of Belmond Sanctuary Lodge and our renowned service quality at their best with the firm intention to deliver the best service and experience to our guests.

I am glad to know that you could enjoy our privileged location in front of the citadel, allowing you to enjoy as much as possible, complemented by our service, we aim to provide the highest quality service and delight every customer with each detail we deliver.

For location and service the Sanctuary Lodge @ Machu Picchu is outstanding, if money is not an object. It is well worth it. However,
in our case upon checking in we were not informed the glass shower
door in our room had been broken and removed. Everything in the
bathroom became soaked. We asked for another room but nothing
was available. The staff did a great job cleaning up the mess and
gave us extra towles for our next showers. For a property that charges
$1600.00 per night I would think a spare rod and shower curtain would
be cheap insurance.

Best location ever to visit the Inca Citadel. Situated right next door to the entrance but in own attractive garden and superb views of the spectacular mountains which form the backdrop for the ruins. It is worth the expense to thoroughly be pampered by excellent service, delicious food and wine, massage at the end of a busy day.

Service is attentive, and of the highest caliber. The rooms are on the small side.
The location spectacular, a few steps from the entrance to the Machu Picchu citadel and park. Atmosphere sophisticated country lodge. Would return in a heartbeat. A fabulous experience made more so by the wonderful, helpful staff.

Obviously the primary reason to stay here is that it is immediately outside the entrance to Machu Picchu. On the downside, it is a fairly typical hotel with small rooms, no view (Our room had a terrace that looked at a wall. Don't know if there are rooms with a view.) and no elevator (if you're going to hike up Machu Picchu this shouldn't bother you). But you're not staying here for a grand, elegant room. The staff is excellent, friendly, polite and helpful, and the food is very good also. So you can save yourself a bouncy, dusty bus ride and stay on the mountain if you're willing to shell out a significant premium on price.

No picture of Machu Picchu can prepare you for seeing it with your own eyes. Perched high in the Andes, it is one of few places in the world that can be described as truly unmissable. It’s on everyone’s travel wish list, attracting a million visitors each year. But there’s only one way to see it in style: by staying at Belmond Sanctuary Lodge. When we say we’re one of a kind, we mean it. Belmond Sanctuary Lodge is the only hotel that sits at the entrance of the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. For years we have been the unofficial gateway to the Inca world, inviting our guests to explore with unrivalled access and expert guidance. While most visitors to the citadel endure a winding bus ride from Aguas Calientes, our snug retreat is a few footsteps away. Wake before sunrise and be the first through the gates. The mountains look magnificent emerging from a thick cloak of mist, and Machu Picchu is stunning in solitude. Stop, breathe and soak it all in. ... more   less
