“I want to live here!”
Reviewed September 13, 2009

Gabriel and Brian's Green House is absolutely charming and in the most striking setting - gorgeous green grounds up against beautiful arid mountains. I really felt like we were visiting friends -- they took us in, cooked amazing meals and regaled us with great convo. Not too mention their adorable dogs. I was completely taken with Lika (sp?) who guided us to a waterfall near by. It was a great respite from busy Cusco -- we didn't want to leave! We definitely want to come back and stay a few weeks just exploring the Sacred Valley. One note: it's really for the more independent traveler or folks that can go with the flow since it's outside the major tourist areas and life goes at a slightly slower (and nicer pace!).

After a long day touring MP and the train / taxi rides from Ollantaytambo, it was getting late but we finally made it to the Green House.

Bryan and Gabriel along with their 3 dogs gave us a wonderful welcome. They also warmed up some soup to replenish our souls.

Their open-ranch styled guest home is very cosy and rustic but chic at the same time. The fire place really brings out the tranquil feeling at night.

Our room was on the first floor with 2 twin beds. It was comfortable and clean.

The next day we woke up to the gorgeous mountain setting, sipping coffee and enjoying the scenery.

Our Peru trip in June had been quite rough because of the strikes. So we decided to take it easy in the morning. Thanks to Bryan's suggestion, in the afternoon we trekked to a small waterfall near their property and it was the perfect activity for the day.

On our way back we also found a colmado (small store) and bought some bread, cheese and eggs and fixed us a late lunch back in the Green House.

Unfortunately we were only there for 2 nights but it was definitely a nice sweet memory and a wonderful conclusion of our visit of the SV.

Thank you guys and you sure make wonderful hosts! ; )

P.S.

SV is made of beautiful towns such as Chinchero, Pisac and Ollantaytambo against breath-taking dramatic Andean mountain sceneries. Do plan spending enough time here so that you can take them all in.

In terms of trip planning, you could easily stay at least a couple of nights here when you are in-between Pisac and Ollantaytambo, as also suggested by other guests who left their reviews here.

If you arrive at the guest house in the evening like we did, you may want to pay extra attention to their sign as the guest house is NOT on the main street and the street lighting is rather dim. If I remember correctly, the signage will be on your left side if coming from Ollantaytambo or Urubamba. If coming from Pisac or Cusco, the signage will be on your right side. Our taxi from Ollantaytambo train station charged us 50 S. for 4 people. Meanwhile taxi to Pisac was 35 S.

We stayed in the Green House Peru for three nights in August. It is a fantastic place to stay. Its really relaxing, quiet, clean and is surrounded by beautiful mountains. The owners Gabrielle and Bryan are absolutely lovely, friendly and helpful. The food is good too. I would definately recommend this guesthouse to others.

There is a reason why Green House is ranked #1! We stayed at this lovely b&b for two nights. After reading about it on trip advisor, we changed our itinerary so that it was possible to come here, and it was worth making the changes. The b&b is very serene and peaceful, away from the hustle and bustle of places that are clustered with tourists. Gabriel and Bryan are teriffic hosts. Not only do we miss them, but also their three dogs! Thank you for making our stay wonderful.

My review of Bryan and Gabriel's peaceful establishment does not deviate from the previous reviews. Bryan and Gabriel are two of the kindest people we've ever met, and together, they've created something very special and unique. From memorable conversations by the fireplace, to Gabriel's nourishing and heart-warming meals by candlelight, from hikes to the waterfall led by their dog extraordinaire, Laika, to Bryan's attentive service, from basking in the rays by their beautiful garden, to admiring the starry night sky, The Green House Peru is a haven for those who desire only the best. Unlike so many other establishments, The Green House is run with heart and soul, and I don't think Bryan and Gabriel would have it any other way.

If you are visiting Peru or just thinking about visiting. In the Sacred Valley, in the town of Calca theres a place one really should stay at called The Green House. Which lays between the river Urubamba and with mount Verónica to view from the garden. If it is peace and quite you are looking for between visiting different places than this peaceful hotel is just the thing. Calca is central in the Sacred Valley with in easy reach of Cusco, Chinchero, Moray, Urubamba, and Ollantaytambo where one get the train to Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu. The Green House is a pleasant place, quite with beautiful gardens and a little stream running past, there is a special place for quite meditation. There is room for 10 guest at any one time, the place is run by Bryan and Gabriel. Bryan is a master at looking after the gardens and making one feel quite at home, almost like home from home. Gabriel is a master chef, making extreme mouth watering dishes, which are serve in the dinningroom while one is looking out on mount Verónica what more could one want. I can only give this place my recommendation to all who will be traveling in the Sared Valley, where one is near to all the Inka ruins yet can Stay at The Green House. Something of both worlds, the travelling or tracking, plus the pease and quite of the wonderful place called The Green House.

We are a Brazilian family that took a two week trip to Peru and had in the Green House the best service and atmosphere that we found in a very hospitable country.
Gabriel and Brian go beyond the call of duty to make you confortable - they even found a portuguese speaking guide for us without even being asked.
The rooms are delicious, incredibly confortable beds, clean ans spacious rooms, everything was really flawless. I must say I was quite skeptical not only with the beautiful pictures and great reviews here, but also the friendliness of the tripadvisor members that indicated me the site. I could almost swear it was their mom´s doing or a fake marketing campaign and could not be more pleased to know that, in fact, I was overly cynical and it surpassed the best case scenario I had in mind.

The only possible "if" with The Green House Peru is the relative distance to the train station in Ollantaytambo for people, like us, with a short period of time in the Sacred Valley, for it takes about 20 minutes to get there... On the other hand, the distance provides a communion with the valley that I cannot imagine getting in any other way, or a better place to rest after visiting the sacred city.

I could not imagine a better place to rest after visiting Macchu Picchu. Ah, and please don´t make the mistake of trading one of Gabriel´s meals to a dinner in Aguas Calientes - the touristy town won´t provide one half as good as his.

Really, the only regret my family had was not spending more time there.
