“loved the sharing and peace”

Our 10 year old daughter decided it was the coolest place on earth once she saw the movie room, the great reasturant area with freplace, the rooms and views, and of course Paco the dog that is the best dog after her dog Sasha. We agreed with her and found it the perfect spot surrounded by mountains and great views with the gentle sound of the runing water just behind the rooms.
Shareing experiences with Chris and Gabriel was great and we learned much about the area and things most travelers would benifit from knowing. We found many out of the way places like Mama Kea's home for needy children where the Hacienda itself is worth the trip to see her, with everything else a real treat.
Thanks to the great service, clean and safe hotel, good food, and too many extras to list it soon became our best vacation. It is extremely reasonable, very clean, beautifully built, and a place in the green mountains that makes it a place to return whenever posible.

Great location in the sacred valley, beautiful rooms, wonderful food. Gabriel was extremely friendly and accommodating, making us feel at home. Central to many sacred sites.

I stayed at the Green House for 6 weeks, where my 6 month old baby and I found our home away from home in Peru. Gabriel, the host, speaks fluent english and spanish, and is very involved with the local community. My time at the Green House was incredible, it's a chance to experience authentic rural Peru while staying in first class, luxury accommodation. The garden oasis of lush grass and carefully tended beds of flowers and shrubs was a pleasure to enter after a walk in the hills through fields of corn and stalwart cows (one was grazing on a cliff!). I slept in the cleanest room I encountered during my 4 month visit to Peru, dozing off to the sound of the nearby brook. I understand that Gabriel will provide meals soon, and his cooking was a flavourful respite to the local cuisine the times we shared a meal. The small community where the Green House is located is called Huaran. It's on the main highway through the sacred valley, with local buses passing every 10 minutes or so, going to the larger villages. Huaran is green fields and adobe houses surrounded by craggy mountain peaks. There are tiny villages with foot-only access up the steep well-trod trails that head from the village into the mountains. I hiked around alone (with my baby) every day, to the bemusement of the local farmers and schoolchildren who always asked where I was going and why? If you are lucky enough to have the opportunity to stay at the Green House, please give Gabriel a kiss on the right cheek and relax and enjoy. You're in good hands.

  • Liked — welcoming host, artistic and clean building and garden, community and culture
  • Disliked — spiral stairs to TV room are difficult to negotiate with a baby

This lovely, new B&B which we found through friends that live in Cuzco, was one of the highlights of our recent trip to Peru. The gracious hosts and the beauty of the area have captured our hearts.

This little B&B is named the Green House, because it is green in color and it is designed with sustainability in mind (organic gardens, solar water heating). It is located in the country, away from the usual tourist sites, but at the same time, is just a short walk down a country road and an easy busride away from Calca, Pisac, and Urubamba.

It is right next to a small river that gives the rushing water background sounds to complement the chorus of birdsong from the extensive cornfield that edges the property. The mountains nearby were the main vista, and we loved watching the ever-changing mist and clouds that hung over the peaks. Closer in, there is a large open lawn surrounded by flowers and, across the road, a grove of eucalyptus trees.

The 4 bedrooms in this B&B are spacious, attractive, and clean. I liked the beauty and luxury... the down comforters, the art on the walls, the lighting, the well crafted wood windows and doors, and the fluffy bath sheets.

The breakfast on the patio was homemade bread, a large plate of fresh fruit, fresh juice, great coffee with hot milk, or tea if you want. All that good food with the beautiful views of the mountains. We often spent evenings enjoying the fire in the fireplace and the moon and the stars. As an alternative, there is also an entertainment room with a wide selection of dvd’s to play on the state-of-the-art system and cable tv.

We walked the country roads, wandered the main road and met many who live in the area, hiked to a waterfall, walked down to the Urubamba River and saw the ruins of an Inca bridge and of course, often just sat and drank in the beauty of the area. Excursions from here were easy, so we did trips to nearby towns and ruins and markets, and also did our two day trip to Machu Picchu from here, returning for a few more days before going home. For those of you who are more into adventure sports, this is a great location for mountain biking and river trips.

Transportation to the B&B is easy. We took a one-hour taxi ride to and from Cuzco but could have taken a bus that would have dropped us a few minutes walk from the B&B. If you want a great driver to pick you up in Cuzco, ask the B&B to arrange for Freddy.

This delightful B&B is one of our favorite memories of our trip to the highlands of Peru. I'll recommend it to everyone I meet who will be going to the Sacred Valley.
