“good but pricey”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2012

This is a typical steakhouse where you order your meat and add on any side dishes separately. The steak was good although a little undercooked even for me, who likes my meat very rare. The side dishes, however, are very large and could definitely be shared.

“Expensive for very average food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2012

Compared with many other good restaurants around, this is quite expensive but we were willling to give it a go as it was our last day in Lima.
Our cocktails were good but our dishes didn't look as good as the description, we asked one of the waiters and he just came back to us saying that the waiter has forgotten to bring the sauce, which was the main point of having this dish!
Our dishes (chicken) were very simple but prices were above 60 soles, so we were quite dissapointed. Add to that the 10 soles per person, we ended up paying a bill for 4 equal to what we had paid the day before for 9 elsewhere, and much better.
You can find better restaurants in Miraflores or San Isidro without those prices. We recommend Donatello on the same Avenue block 9.

“Old fashioned parrilla great classic flavors”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2012

La Tranquera has been around for decades I was there a while ago and it is still on the the best in Lima. The place looks a bit old from the 60´s but the food is superb we had asado de tira , entraña and chichulines and it was just as good as any top place in Argentina and in Uruguay. The waiters are well trained and give good advice the wine list is ok in short a great place in Lima. I want to go back to try their anticuchos and lomo saltado.
Most people don´t eat parrilla while they are in Lima but if you like steak this place is worth a visit.

“Arrogant and expensive”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2012

My friend got the wrong dish (which can happen in the best places). But when we mentioned this, he was really arrogant. Did not say a word, just took the plate and went. Took a LONG time before the replacements came, without a word of apology.

And when the bill came, they tried to bill us for the dish they served wrong. Which was 15 soles more expensive. And I had to fight with them for another wrong issue on the bill. Did not pay a cent in tips.

One of the beefs were also ordered "well done", and came "medium".

And the price range is also too high for this restaurant.

They also take a 10 Soles pr person as an extra charge, just to sit down. (Which actually is not legal in Peru).

“kickbut meats”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2011

Besides great meats their service was great, especially Humberto who we visited twice on our recent trip. Wine selection is outstanding, however, waiters do not know much about the different selections. With the parrilla para dos I would suggest the Gran Reserva Carmenere Riberas Series from Concha y Toro. Priced well too! drinks like a very expensive Merlot. This is a local restaurant were locals eat so don't expect a touristy atmosphere. If you like the Argentine style of cooking and like to visit the locals, this is a great place.
