In the busiest part of Avenida Grau in Barranco you find Las Mesitas. A discrete sign outside telling you can find Comida Criolla here. and yes you can. The menu is looooooong. Prices are very nice also, surprisingly cheap. But the restaurant is clean, service is quick. and the food? Oh yes. Had a piurian tamale as starter (best tamale i have ever eaten) and a chicken file with a fried egg (really fresh) and at the end a Tajada for dessert. Not that i knew what that was - now I know. A soaked cake in honey. Quite ok.
I will surely go back to Las Mesitas

Clean, good food, good service. Nice atmosphere. Served chicha, the Peruvian corn "beer". Arroz con leche (rice pudding) was excellent. They had a tier with a number of desserts we didn't have room to try.

If you are looking for a place and feel like you went back to the 40' & 50' then you are in the right place! not only that the food is great and inexpensive but there is more on some Fridays and Saturdays there is a live piano player, playing the music from those years , nostalgic and valses (soft dance music) and also he will play at request, the overall environment is from that era the restaurant still has it's (I believe) original furniture, gorgeous chairs all carved wood and so are the wood walls of this small but nice restaurant and the tables has their original marmol tops,...don't forget to admire the small sculpture on top of the piano and the angel in the back of the restaurant an original all carved wood.. it just feels like Andy Warhol, and Jose Mariategui, are just about to cross the door and sit next to you and tell you their stories...

Right in the middle of Barranco. It's a no-frills place, so don't expect anything fancy. But if you're looking for rustic food, in a place frequented by locals, you can't go wrong. The humitas and tamales (and the red onion relish that comes with them) are amazing

This restaurant is a fixture in Barranco and well worth a visit. Everything is made fresh in the kitchen: try the 'humitas', a stale Andean dish made from corn -- not too different from Mexican tamales. They come with different fillings: beef, pork, chicken, and vegetarian. Leave room for the delicious home-made desserts. Very tasty, and light on your wallet. Open till 11:00 pm most nights, till 1:00 am Friday and Saturday nights.
