“Still the best in Lima”

On one hand, quite imposing as you enter the front door, on the other, each room with only limited tables makes it look quite stark and almost lonely.
Once you start the degustation though, you soon realise why this has been rated so highly for years. Wonderful professional service , my wife's allergies presented no obvious difficulties and the degustation offered theatre, drama, quality , passion with wonderful flavours and texture. Similarly to Central, by comparison to international equivalents, it is exceptional value.

“Disneyland of the Mouth”
Reviewed August 21, 2014

What do you get for $300+ ? A very entertaining 3 hour metaphorical trip through Peru ! Food, rather experience. If you eat to be satisfied this is the wrong venue for you. If you eat to have fun, experience the delight of creative and exciting tablespoons of tasting this is for you. We were in a small room cared for by one waiter and a few help staff. They were delightful, warm and grossly over worked. They served 14 people 20+ courses of dinner a piece at death defying speed. I cannot say this did not interrupt the sanctity of the meal, it did. Because the experience was so special and taste is so individual it is difficult to balance the good with the bad here. Suffice it to say if you have the extra cash and enjoy the more far out experiences of eating you might stop by here when in Lima. If you are more conservative in your taste and budget eat else where and avoid the sticker shock.

“Imaginative Dining”
Reviewed August 21, 2014 via mobile

Astrid y Gaston is one of those rare restaurants where dining is more like a creative experience. The fixed menu at the Casa Moreyra has 29 courses...fortunately some are the size of your thumb nail. Each is very original..and some of the presentations are stunning.Forget about the risk of over eating...and forget about seeing a bountiful plate . Here its all about art and presentation and well worth the experience. There is an option of an accompanying wine menu..perhaps a little too centred on whites but still most enjoyable.Dare I say at the end of the meal I felt a little tipsy..so take care. It was the most expensive meal of my life..usd200 for one person..but it does rank as the most interesting meal Ive ever had. The decor is somewhat minimalist and not at all what I was expecting. The accent is on the food...so if you are interested in creative food and not in a hurry nor ravenous , open up your wallet for a truly unusual dining experience.

“La Barra - overpriced for average food”
Reviewed August 13, 2014

This restaurant was excellent in many ways - the ambience/decor of the restaurant, booking and confirming reservations online, friendly staff. However, even though all these other aspects were great, the food was a disappointment especially for the price. We had the cebiche, the cuy, the duck, the asparagus (although they didn't have white and used green - they did tell us in advance at the time of ordering) and the ribs. The cuy was served like peking duck but not exceptional. The duck was probably the best dish. The desserts were okay but not amazing. I had very high expectations given the reveiws.
