The rooms and bathrooms are extremely clean and taken care of - also spacious.
The terrace has a nice view over barranco, which is the most beautiful part of Lima.
However , there is absolutely no organization (staff say they will pick u up at the airport, they dont , no drinks at all in the bar for 3 days, no one at reception to open the door, guests have to do it )
Also on fridays and saturdays, it can get really noisy (for those who have an early bus or plane the next day, it can be really annoying)

Besides having a beautiful location the owner schedules a lot of activities that allow you to meet the other guests and make your stay awsome.

As i said before, the location is amazing, a lot of places with lot of history to visit, very close to the beach.

The hostel has everything you need, internet, cable tv, kitchen, laundry, hot water and an amazing deck with a bar, a grill, confortable seats where you can chill out and a gorgeus view.

Its a hostel not a hotel. If you want a place that has reliable wifi for many guests, is quite all the time and you want your own bathroom, Kaminu is not for you. However, if your trying to save money like me, your willing to walk up the street to starbucks for your wifi if there are too many users at the hostel, dont mind a walk up the stairs to use the toilet and are planing on staying up late then you could have a very good experience here like i did. They have a big selection of dvd's to choose from in the lobby and the rooftop hangout is a prime location. Play classic rock for the bartender off your ipod, and he's likely to start handing out free drinks. Did wake up with a cigarette butt in my bed, that was not mine on the first night, other than that no reason to believe they weren't a reasonably clean hostel.

We were highly disappointed. The sheets were not clean in the room. Also the private bathroom was stinking, so we had to change the hostel after 1 night. It has poor breakfast with bad coffee and jam. Also, they count breads in the breakfast which is nonsense. They have nice hot showers in the bathrooms. Hostel is located in the Barranco district, which is far away from the central historic area. But it was ok, because this area was a bohemian nice one. I think staff was weird because when we asked about some ice, she answered like 'What for ??' instead of trying to help. I did not enjoy my stay at this hostel despite they had a good vibe.

Room Tip: Stay in Kokopelli Hostel instead.

Positives About Kaminu:
+ Located in the Barranco district this hostel is in an up and coming area of Lima that feels safe.
+ The rooftop terrace is a fantastic place to just sit, relax, kill some time and meet people.
+ A great outdoors kitchen lets you prepare your own meals.
+ There is a fantastic Metro Supermarket a few minutes walk away which is a godsend for any travellers looking to stock up on ingredients for meals or toiletries.
+ Melissa that works in the hostel speaks fantastic English.
+ The mens bathroom is up on the roof terrace, cleaned regularly and has great hot showers.

Negatives About Kaminu:
- The twin room can get pretty hot as it has no external walls.
- The hostel seems to be going through a bit of transition in keeping with the more affluent chances in the district. However the changes do seem to be for the good of the hostel but sometimes the staff seem a tiny bit on edge with each other.
- The ladies bathroom has a piece of frosted glass seperating a shower booth from the toilet. Could be a little intimate on a busy day!

Lima: This area of Lima, the Barranco district, seems to be on the rise. A new Starbucks can be found with new, modern restaurants on one side of the hostel and on the other seeminly abandoned, beautiful period properties. Lima seems to be making a huge effort to maximise their sea front too and in a few years it could be a real draw, with this hostel a few minutes walk from the coast. There are a couple of banks around too on the way to the Metro Supermarket. At the moment it seems like Lima is a stop off for most travellers before heading off to Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca etc. and this place is as good as any to stay.

Would I recommend this hostel to friends: Yes.

Despite a minor snafu in the booking process, I enjoyed my stay at Kaminu. I stayed 3 nights upon arrival in Lima, and returned at the end of my month-long trip for 2 more nights before departing for my home country. Both times I requested the private double with en suite, which was comfortable and clean, if a bit noisy due to its proximity to the front desk. As an experienced traveler I have learned never to leave home without earplugs, so noise is never a problem for me. Light sleepers might not agree with my assessment. The shower always had hot water, and the bed was comfortable.

The best thing going for Kaminu is its superb location. Situated right on the pedestrian street Bajada de los Baños in the colorful Barranco district, the hostel is close to great restaurants, art galleries, and shops. Furthermore, the neighborhood is known for its bohemian street art and murals, which make for excellent photo opportunities. Barranco is very walkable and safe, and close to the Metropolitano station Bulevar. These articulated buses whisk you to the historic center of Lima in 30 minutes, or Miraflores in under 15.

My only complaint is that breakfast was hit-or-miss, and there was never any milk for coffee, even though I asked every day I was there. Other than that, I'm pretty certain I'd stay there again.

Room Tip: The private room in the back is quieter

Really relaxed place! We wanted to go to backpackers inn, but when we arrived there felt very unwelcome and moved to kaminu! That was a good decision:) breakfast is included and pretty good! There is a bbq in the weekend. Beers are a good price. Roof terrace is great. Location is amazing, very close to the sea and close to the lovers bridge:) doesn't feel like your in a big city. Barranco is the best neighbourhood, forget hipsterbusy miraflores
