“Charming, great service, but a bit noisy”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

We found the Clifford through Trip Advisor and were very please with our choice. There were only two problems, one of which is addressed in the "choose a good room" section below. The other is that the Clifford, a beautiful old mansion to which a modern wing has been added at the back, is located on a circle that taxi drivers have difficulty finding. My advice: print out a Mapquest map showing the circle with hotel marked and surrounding streets and keep it with you if you are using taxis. The circle is near a major thoroughfare but many drivers simply don't know the circle exists.

That said, we enjoyed our stay. The staff was friendly and helpful; a full breakfast was offered every morning, and our room was one of the largest we have ever stay in. We would certainly return.

Room Tip: Rooms that overlook the street at the back of the hotel may get a lot of noise in the morning as the...

Stayed two nights. Picked for access to Magic Water Park, Centro Historico (30 minute walk to Plaza de Armes) and quick bus availability to Milaflores. The hotel offers free taxi one way to/from the airport. Several emails with the hotel advised they would pick us up at the airport on arrival. Didn't happen but they did provide the return trip. The ride in was s$50 arranged from a "Green Taxi" driver in the arrival area. No explanation as to why they missed the incoming. Hotel is a 1930 vintage former home with lots of charm. Reserved a suite with king bed (206). Its on the back side and was very quiet. Room is large but we had some issues. Check in was excellent with Juan Manuel providing lots of useful info on who to navigate the city and what to see and areas to avoid. The carpet is in dire need of cleaning at least and replacement is overdue. The room has a fridge but no glasses or hangers in the closet. The missing items were provided quickly. The bathroom has a triangle shaped soaker tub with hand held shower. Made it difficult to have a decent shower. The room has free Wi-Fi and air conditioning. Comes with one luggage rack and no in room coffee maker. However the breakfast (included) starts at 8 am and the coffee is excellent as is the prepared breakfast. The hotel also offers evening dining until 8 pm with a fixed price s$18 for 3 choices.
In summary, the Clifford even with its shortcomings is a good choice for Centro Lima and for the price of s$550 for a suite it is good value for the money.

With Lima's manic traffic it was such a relief to pull into the quiet of the circular drive around a park, with no through traffic and the peaceful green outlook. The hotel looks like a family home and the staff are as friendly and helpful as though you were family - welcomed us cheerfully at 1 am. The rooms in the historic part are generous in size and simply furnished - perfectly comfortable. The bathroom was small but clean and functional. The Clifford is within walking distance of the historic centre which is the chief attraction of Lima. There is no restaurant in the hotel, except for a basic breakfast.

Room Tip: There appear to be some modern rooms in an annexe at the back, but I think the rooms in the historic...

Excellent historical house in a quiet and safe zone at downtown Lima (!), not so far from touristic points but very close to some historical and day-to-day (real life) attractions. Very polite and helpful staff made us feel very comfortable, with a lot of interesting information about the neighboorhood. Close to Water Park. Simple but very nice breakfast. I would return.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor seem to be larger than the others.

A gorgeous historical house, large comfortable rooms. Quiet neighborhood. Very friendly and helpful staff. Kept our bags and let us rest in the lounge before our late night flight. Walking distance from Magic Fountains.

I stayed 2 times in July, 2012 and will go back if/when I return to Lima. Traveling as a single older female, I felt very safe with the courteous, helpful staff and The Clifford's excellent location -- easy round-trip walk all over historic Lima and a safe night time, 4 block walk to the Circuito Magico del Agua in Parque de Reserva (which should be on everyone's list!). Hotel even has on its website an excellent walking tour to print out with directions from/to hotel. Check it out online! Breakfast was excellent (included) and the very pretty courtyard in back was very relaxing. One way transportation from airport was included, and the fare back to airport was reasonable. I ordered wine from bar one night. Hotel had a large room with several computers with internet access for guests. I noticed, but didn't use, that each computer had webcam for one to use Skype. A printer was also available. After one night stay, I needed to go to airport not until 10:00 pm the next evening. I expected to pay for a full night to keep my room, or have to check out of my room in the morning and have bag stored for me all day while I was exploring historic Lima. What a pleasant surprise to be offered the option to pay only 1/2 of full night's stay in order to keep my room and be able to return to The Clifford and shower prior to leaving for airport. Both rooms in which I stayed had newly remodeled baths. Very happy that I didn't settle for a newer hotel with an ordinary experience in the suburbs when I was able to admire the many architectural details from the 1930's instead. If you want "new and sparkly" then opt for the suburbs; if you want history and charm, stay at The Clifford!

We are here in the hotel.
It's 10:00 in the morning.
We have regular reservation and the room is available.
According to the regulamentation of the hotel, the receptionist said that is impossible have an early check-in (or better, it's possible with 30$ more).
Ridicolous!
It's not the idea of hospitality.
It's only because of my kind girlfriend that I haven't change hotel.
Stay away and choose places where twe word hospitality has the right meaning....
Repeat: Ridicolous!
