great quiet streets with colonial and art deco houses in bright colors. The beaches are crowded during the weekend and are fun to see and taking a few pictures but nothing more. Walking around barranco is great. Colonial mansions, the electricity museum and some nicebars with seaviews. One of the best barrios of lima

Good restaurants, beautiful scenery and pictures.
There are restaurants that lead to the sea and beach.
At night time this is the area to come for bars, salsa and alternative music such as Jazz.
It is every pleasant to walk around, there's a tourist office as well next to the square/park.

Barranco is located south of the Miraflores District, some distance from the center of Lima, and really comes alive during weekends at night. There are authentic Peruvian restaurants, Peñas where traditional criollo music is performed, discos and comedy clubs that cater to residents and tourists. My favorite is Peña El Carajo (note the name is considered somewhat vulgar in spanish) where there is comedy, traditional folklore and floor show dances, with dance music until the early hours of the morning.

We're currently staying in Barranco, and would recommend it, but having visited Miraflores yesterday we wished we had stayed there. A short walk from our hostel (The Point Hostel) there are some stunning views of the beach. Peruvian food can be found inexpensively; we passed a menu criollo for 6 soles, starter and main. There are some cool bars too, pricey for peru in general, but that's just from what I saw. We found a few happy hours too so it can be cheaper if you drink at the right time. Overall, here or Miraflores are the places to be in Lima.
