“Good starting point to visit historic Lima”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

Much of the church is from the mid 18th century after a quake destroyed parts of it, and it has a vast, spacious feel, with natural daylight brightening the interior. Many chapels, some barroque artwork, many exhibition rooms with polichrome statues, sculptures, and other types of religious finery. Many impressive oil paintings in the Spanish styles. Not to be missed especailly by history buffs is the impressive memorial hall honoring Conquistador Francisco Pizarro with a sarcophagus containing his head, {as he was decapitated}, situated to the immediate right of the entrance from the main plaza. There is 1 or 2 other museums in this cathedral complex and a master ticket for them all is sold in the Cathedral's entrance. Ask about upcoming choir recitals if you are a music lover.

“Catacombs interesting”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

Amazing cathedral, I am not a great church visitor but this one impressed me. Our guide may have made it very interesting rather than walking round on your own. Knowing the story behind things helps.
catacombs were very interesting seems a bit macabre , however interesting history.
Well recommend you visit. Got a bit churched out in Peru but this one was impressive.

“Great value tour”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

For only 7 soles you get a 45 minute tour of the cathedral and cemetry under the church. Really interesting to listen to, and not too long and tiring. Cemetry under the church is a bit eery but good to see. Great tour
