“Clean, budget hotel w/ good staff”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2009

Got stuck one extra night due to flight cxln, and original hotel Faraona (another 3 star) was sold out. Room itself was very plain & basic, felt a bit like you were in a cement block. But it was clean and beds were comfortable. Shower was good too. Location was across from Miraflores Indian markets, a few blocks away from Kennedy Park, and 20 minutes or so walk to Larcomar, the mall on the sea. Internet was $1 for 30 minutes, and it cut you off if you weren't done and had to go back downstairs to pay again and get back on, a bit annoying. Breakfast was OK, not the worst and not the best for variety. Staff however were very good. The waitstaff in dining room and bartender work for 4* cruise lines, and are on their off time. Sounds like a normal thing for this hotel to hire these folks. If you've ever been on a cruise, you'd know this is a plus for any Intl. hotel catering to foreigners to have them work there. English was excellent, very friendly, full of good advice on where to go, and loved to talk up their country. They seemed like fun and wished we were staying a bit longer to check out a couple of their recommendations. They also spoke French to another patron.
I will admit the hotel was not as nice as the Faraona, but still would have no problem staying there again and recommending to others on a budget (appx. $15/nt less than Faraona - another 3 star).

Here in Miraflores you wont find a better hotel less than $100 a night. Is true rooms are basic but have everything you need: Cable TV, Pvt Bath w/ tub and lots of hot water, minibar, Free Wi Fi high speed connection, Air conditioning, Heater, closet, International/National calls from the room, etc.
Internet is $1 for 30 minutes in the lounge and you dont have to go downstairs to pay unless you dont want to charge it to your room.
She also rate us as regular location but she wrote we are very well located which is true as you can read in others reviews.
Hope it will help you folks...

Located in the heart of Miraflores, Mariel Hotel is within walking distance of everything you'd want to see in this beautiful town: Larcomar, the Lovers Park, Calle Pizzas, El Ovalo and its artwalk, the pre-Inca Huaca Pucllana ruins and its restaurant, and finally, Mariel Hotel is right across the street from a wonderful, open air artesanal market. The hotel itself is clean, elegant, quiet, with great wi-fi connection throughout. The staff is professional and helpful. The only bother is it only has one small elevator that moves verrry slowly. If you're on a high floor, build in wait times.

This hotel was only for one night before flying to Cusco the next day. The location is OK if you are willing to walk a couple of blocks into the busier area of Miraflores. Close to a 20 minute walk down to the water. The staff is accommodating and lobby is small but attractive. The elevator is so small that the luggage had to go after us. The room is very basic, white, white, white. You have to pay for A/C if you need it. We opened our one window to let fresh air in. No screens. The bathroom window did not open. The bathroom had a decent size vanity. If 50's yellow wall tile is your thing, you'll be happy! Shower/tub was OK and water hot. Surprisingly the bed was very comfortable for this 3 star hotel. Breakfast buffet was sparce but adequate before our departure. Slight charge for their Internet service, next to the dining area. Would not have wanted to spend more than one night here.

After arriving in Lima with no reservations and my taxi driver calling 7 hotels that were totally booked it was a relief of great proportions finding a room in this hotel. Yes, is not cheap (300 soles/night) but it's very well located, in front of the arts & crafts markets and a couple of blocks away from Park Kennedy and nice restaurants. It does look like a brand new Holiday Inn Express, but can't beat the proximity to attractions, the incredible attention from the staff and how safe is the neighborhood. I was in the 8th floor and still could hear street noise... but that's how it is everywhere in Lima.

Caters to groups (GAP, etc.), excellent "front line" staff, comfortable rooms, fantastic breakfast, great location, but expensive by backpacker standards ("rack rate" is S/.265@ double with bathroom!).

  • Liked — Luxury after a long backpacking trip.
  • Disliked — Cost.

All Lima roofs are like that, unless you stay in Marriot in front the ocean, Mariel is not a hostel but price-value relation is very good say our customers. Since Aug 2008 we include a larger buffet and Frigobars A/C/Heater and WiFi in room by request.

I stayed at the Mariel for two days in May 2008. The hotel is within walking distance to shopping and restaurants, and my room was simple but clean and comfortable, and had a nice view of the central park in Miraflores. The breakfast that comes with the room was good. The staff was professional and very attentive. The area seemed to be quite safe. Sure you can pay more and stay in the Doubletree a few blocks away, but overall the Mariel is an excellent value.

  • Disliked — Furniture was on the spartan side. TV was small.
