“Perfect Little Hotel in the Best Part of Lima”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

We stayed at this hotel for five nights at the start of our Peruvian trip. We asked for a quiet room overlooking the courtyard, and that's what we got. Here are the pros, cons, and recommendations for other travelers:

Pros:
Location - it's in Miraflores but not right in the noisy center but instead a quiet residential street. We thought the location was perfect.
Close to public transportation
Hotel offers free airport pickup, which was great - so nice to sign a smiling man with your name on a card after a long day of airports and flights
Breakfast - loved the variety and eggs cooked to order.
The breakfast room - airy, large, light
Warm friendly staff, both at front desk and breakfast room. I loved being greeted with, "welcome home" when we would return to the hotel
Hotel's honesty. - when I was reserving the room, they told me about some construction going on and offered free transport back to the airport as compensation for the construction inconvenience.
View of the courtyard from our room, and the courtyard itself, just beautiful.
The lobby was beautifully decorated, especially for Christmas, which is when we were there

Cons:
No drinking water in their lobby, or even complimentary bottles of water upon arrival. We arrived after midnight but luckily we had a UV water filter with us. There isn't a store close by.
The carpet was stained and the room didn't feel sparkling clean, but now that we are in our fourth week of traveling, we know now that most Peru hotels are like that.

Recommendations for other travelers:
Be specific about wanting a larger room. We had room 206. Some rooms are much smaller.
If you are arriving late, buy water at the airport or bring your own water filter. We have been using a Steripen Ultraviolet light which runs on lithium batteries and never worry about running out of water.
Look for San Antonio restaurant and Tanta restauant about five blocks from the hotel. They both have great food and safe salads which are excellent.

Room Tip: Ask for room 206, the windows open out over the beautiful courtyard

From reading all the reviews I was expecting a beautiful little hotel, what a disappointment!!!!!!!! Our room was really sub-standard, it was large yes but it lacked a fridge! drinking water! and a safe! the windows were very old and were held together by a broken lock- we did not feel so safe here. I felt like the staff were enthusiastic but inexperienced- after asking about a museum in Lima we wanted to visit we then were instructed to catch a 30min taxi, on arrival however the museum was closed because Monday is a day when the museums are closed- surely the reception staff should know this??? The breakfast was really average- no nice ham or cheese, only one small container of cereal that was nearly empty and limited fruit that was not replaced when it was all gone. The bed linen was really old and smelt a bit dusty, overall the room looked a bit like a backpacker hostel. While we were staying they were renovating the upstairs section in the rooms right next to ours from 9am until well into the afternoon, the noise was unbelievable (and yes it was a week before christmas) it was impossible to go back to our room during the day to rest. The experience was not BAD it just was NOT good, would not go back here.

Very nice hotel, superb breakfast, located within waking distance from Miraflores and shops or take the Metro buses to the old town and Center. Staff at hotel were very helpful and excellent.
Will stay again, whenever possible!

We stayed at the Hotel for 2 nights at the beginning of our Peru experience. The hotel is very nice, outside and inside. We were given a very large and spacious room on the second floor.
The staff was very helpful in every way, always friendly with a big smile. Breakfast very good.
Would recommend it to all my friends!

My wife and daughter loved staying here. The staff and management were so friendly and helpful. In fact we plan on returning next October. We also loved the food and were very impressed with the cleanliness. My family & I initially intended for a 1 night stay but decided to stay longer. Thumbs up from Canada!

We had a very pleasant stay at the San Antonio Abad Hotel. The folks at the front desk were gracious and helpful at every turn and the accommodations were very comfortable. The hotel also went out of its way to mitigate the inconvenience of some daytime renovations they had underway by providing complimentary transportation to and from the airport. We came away very happy.

We were using Lima as the jumping off point for the rest of our time in Peru so we weren't looking for a lot but San Antonio Abad was a joy in itself. The polished wood floors, the courtyard, our room overlooking the courtyard, great shower, excellent breakfast, friendly helpful staff: this hotel is a bargain! It is no more than ten minutes from the centre of Miraflores and there is plenty to see along the way. The free transport to and from the airport (the former because of renovations which we barely noticed anyway) made the price seem all the more affordable. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for the second or third floor overlooking the courtyard
