Every city has a major gathering center. Lima's Plaza mayor affects people with beautiful, well-looked after colonnial buildings.

Actually,we just came back from Lima´s downtown. We went in bycicles,as today is a holyday, and usualy the best day to have a "smooth" tour thru Lima.
Starting in San Isidro area,it took us about 3 hours to complete the trip, which include Chinatown ( good experience, thought very dirty).
Plaza Mayor,by itself with the Catedral and surrondings, really worth the visit.

It is important to visit the Plaza de Armas in Lima because it is the most representative of the Republican architecture. Although there are constructions which were completed in the last century, remains the neo-colonial architecture. The most important places are the Government Palace and the guard is changed at noon. The show calls attention both children and adults. You can also visit The Archbishop's Palace among others.

I loved all of the buildings around the plaza there were all very pretty. The only thing I would warn about is the area around the plaza is not the safest in Lima. We had no issues but my friend from Lima told us to be aware.

Traffic is crazy in Lima, but worth trying to visit Plaza de Armas. We got there when they were changing guards, which happens around noon. This area looked so different from all the rest of Lima.
