I was only in Lima for a few hours and arranged to meet our son-in-law's parents for the first time as they live nearby. The desk clerk spoke perfect English and offered to call and let them know I had arrived. The hotel is absolutely beautiful as is the view of the ocean. Lots of neat shops and restaurants within a few blocks and it's a very safe area. I'm hoping to return to Lima with my husband and this is definitely where we will stay.

My wife and I began our vacation to Peru by spending two nights in Lima at the JW Marriott. The location of this hotel is outstanding... above the Pacific Ocean near the cliff. Just in front of the JW is the upscale Larcomar shopping center... just a few steps from the front door.

Overall... the hotel is located about 30 to 45 minutes from the airport. Upon arrival to the JW... check-in was simple and very quick. The bellhop showed us to our room... and showed us everything we needed to know about the room. The room was a good size for my wife and I... with a gorgeous view over the Pacific (as long as the fog hasn't rolled in). We were on one of the upper floors and could see for miles! I believe every room at the JW has an ocean view... which is a plus. The bathroom was very spacious with a separate shower and tub. Also... the room was spotless with no sign of everyday wear and tear.

After getting settled... we decided to venture across the way to Larcomar. First... wanting to take a night tour of Lima which included the water circuit... we asked the concierge if there were any available. The concierge told us about a tour that could be booked at a stand located in the Larcomar shopping center. It was an inexpensive option on a very cool double-decker red bus. We ate dinner at a cafe in Larcomar... and then got ready for our bus tour. The tour lasted about 2 hours with a stop at the water circuit and a drive around some of the more famous sites (including the Plaza de Armas). Seeing the plaza lit up at night was quite spectacular. I must highly recommend taking a night tour of Lima... we are glad we didn't miss out on this experience.

The JW offers a breakfast buffet for guests. The spread is quite amazing with fresh fruit... meats... cheese... and just about any other breakfast food you can think. There is even an omelet station... which was very good. This was a great way to start the morning... and it definitely filled my wife and I for a day of activities.

The next day... we took a stroll through Miraflores and stopped at several of the quaint parks. This area is definitely upscale and very safe. We saw several police officers patrolling... and there were so many people out and about we never once felt unsafe. During the afternoon... we had a city tour scheduled. This time we got to stop at the Plaza de Armas... which again has amazingly beautiful architecture. Then it was off to the Cathedral of San Francisco. The highlight was being able to tour the catacombs... but the entire cathedral was quite an experience! To me... this is a must see in Lima. Then it was off to the Gold Museum. This was a collection of thousands of pieces of gold and other artifacts. An interesting experience... but definitely a bit out of the way. If this isn't part of a tour you book... I wouldn't say you MUST see it.

Our final night... we found another restaurant at Larcomar... which offered great views of the Pacific and delicious food. This is one thing I must say. Great food can be found for inexpensive prices. One just needs to look for it.

We had a great stay in Lima... and being able to stay at the JW made it that much more enjoyable. The location is just perfect... and the staff really takes care of you. You can tell they really are trying to make sure your stay is perfect. The only thing I can think of changing is potentially offering free internet access or wi-fi. The JW charged for this service... which a lot of hotels these days are offering for free. It may be time for the JW to offer up this service for free as well.

Peru is our homeland and we wanted our brother in law to taste a little bit of the quality service we can expect in America. We chose to take him to the JW Marriott for a weekend stay and he had the time of his life. Great rooms and amenities, location is key to the best area in Lima, although is way too expensive for the regular peruvian people, prices at restaurants and room service are average for the American traveler.
Staff is fully bilingual and they will make sure you enjoy your visit. Please note that tipping in Peru is not customary but if you feel they deserve it, leave it on peruvian cash. Most business don't share gratuities with staff as they get paid a monthly salary and small single or five dollar bills are really hard to get exchanged.

My husband and I stayed at the JW for 3 night in April when we traveled to Lima for a friend's wedding. We had a wonderful stay and were able to use our Marriot Reward point for our stay. Our room was large with a king bed and the bathroom had both a soaking tub and shower. The location is superb with Larcomar (a mall with great restaurants overlooking the ocean) just across the street. The hotel was able to book a guided tour for us as well as arrange transportation to and from the airport. The transportation was provided in a private car (for $45US) each way which for us since we did not have to deal with taxis in a city we were not familiar with.

The happy hour in the hotel lounge is great, with tasty piscos (with different flavors such as guaba and strawberry) as well as sushi. We tried the brunch our last day there and it was delicious with many local dishes as well as international ones. There are also many restaurants walking distance that serve a variety of dishes.

After nearly two weeks in the Peruvian countryside, this JW was a sight for sore eyes. The location was great, our room was nice, the bathroom was GREAT!!!!, the food was surprisingly good. Laura from the front desk is really nice and helpful. They allowed us access the the concierge lounge after check out. The concierge lounge was a very nice thing to have access to...thanks Marriott Gold...with free breakfast, tea time and dinner buffets daily. The dinner buffet won't cut it, but is a nice pre-dinner snack. We got a couples massage which was very nice (I get them all the time and this was a good one). My husband exercised at the gym. It is complete and free. There is a steam room and sauna in the women's locker room. Sauna is too hot, but nice. We went to the Indian Market which is a 15 minute walk from the hotel for souvenirs. Peru has the best gifts of all the places I've been. We got alpaca hats and socks, these cute little nativity scenes in boxes...hand carved and painted, glass trays that are hand reverse painted, cute pot holders hand sewn with folksy country-side scenes, nazca line silver cuff links, cool t-shirts, and hand woven bags. We arranged for a taxi with the hotel to the airport for 40 soles. They also have their own Mercedes Benz car fleet that will take you for $40 USD...no thanks. I am very glad we stayed there.
