“Solid hostel”
Reviewed August 5, 2013 via mobile

There's no sign so watch for the street number. Also identifiable by the huge gates with electric wire.
David is super friendly and helpful. There is a large, well equipped kitchen and comfortable lounge room, as well as fast and reliable wifi. There is constant hot water from suicide showers.
The place is a little rundown and could do with some work.

We had quite high hopes for Ekeko after its reviews on Hostelworld and Tripadvisor, but were seriously disappointed. The first warning should have been the absence of any sign out the front of the building, and that our taxi driver had never heard of it.
Our room, a double private with ensuite, was totally unfinished. The ceiling had a giant crack which spanned the length of the room which had not been filled in, so that when it rained on the first night we got wet... While sleeping. The bed itself was small, the mattress of poor quality and the pillows lumpy and the sheets incredibly cheap and itchy. We were also told that there were no spare blankets when we said it was a bit cold. There is also no legitimate door separating bathroom and bedroom, just a dodgy faux-wood panel that was half broken. Again, the bathroom ceiling was exposed to the elements, even worse than the bedroom meaning that a 3am bathroom trip led to me being rained on.
Breakfast was basic. And that is being kind. I understand that hostel breakfasts are simple at best and typically involve the obligatory jam, bread and coffee but the was the poorest breakfast we had been offered in our entire 3 month trip around south america. Bread, butter, jam, coffee. No fruit, juice, cereal or even the facilities to toast the bread. Perhaps if they charged less per night I wouldn't have found it such an issue.

Finally, the staff. One of the guys who works here is very kind, friendly and helpful. The other is a brute. After clearing his nose and throat over the meagre breakfast offerings, he then proceeded to pester my boyfriend as we had not instantly washed up our 2 plates from breakfast. He then manipulated their cancellation policy to charge us for an extra night despite us giving them 24 hours notice that we would be staying for 2 nights not 4.

My advice is to stay in one of the other myriad hostels in Miraflores with better location, bedrooms, staff, food and facilities. I very much regret booking with Ekeko and implore other travellers to steer clear.

This hostel is not far from supermarket (7min) and kennedy park (12min) by foot, but overpriced, the double room we stayed in was really noisy (no windows), stank of mold and the shared bathroom was always dirty (cleaning lady came only in the morning, so for the rest of the day it was disgusting) - but: friendly staff and breakfast (jam and bread and coffee) included.

Good quality stay for low budget. Located in really nice neighbourhood. The staff were very helpful in giving advice and directions. No hassle and we were left to do our own thing. The room was basic but comfortable. The security on the bedroom door could be better.

This hostel definitely has a homey feel to it. It has good communal areas, a HUGE kitchen and a backyard. Lima isn't the nicest place to visit so it was great to be staying at a hostel in a safe part of town where we felt we could relax and socialise at the hostel. A free breakfast is served on a big communal table (yummy fresh bread!) which makes it easy to meet other travellers over breakfast.

There was a good mix of gringo and latino backpackers staying there. A nice change from the uber gringo hostels full of English speakers!

The beds are very comfy and the rooms have private bathrooms - ours was a huge bathroom with a great shower. Each bed has a reading light, very handy!

Definitely recommend for your stay in Lima - for only US$5night you certainly get plenty of bang for your buck!

Room Tip: There is no sign in front of the hostel!!! Just looks like a regular house but don't be fooled...

Located about a 15 minute walk from the buzz of Kennedy Park Miraflores, this hostel is more like a homely house with a shared living room downstairs, an out door area out back and kitchen that can be used by anyone.
It has a laid back vibe and lockers to store your valuables. Each bed has a reading lamp which is a nice touch and the whole hostel is kept very clean. The wifi is also good.
I found the staff so helpful. They will provide a map and directions and information for anything you need. The beds are comfortable and the price is standard for Lima.
If you are looking for a party then this probably isn't the place. But if you need a friendly, relaxed place to recharge the batteries then don't hesitate to stay here.
