“Be careful with the owners.”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

This is not a review of the housing, because I didnt stayed at the Benavides, but of the character of Mrs. Rosario, the owner and host. I went to see the house and after checking all the bedrooms (all 5 were available), told Mrs. Rosario I wanted to stay there and separated a particular bedroom. Mrs. Rosario said it was ok, we agreed on the price and gave me her personal e-mail for me to send her all my information so she could write the contract. The day after I send her the e-mail and then called her but she didint answer. For the next few days it was the same, several calls and no answer. After 5 days, someone told me to call her from another cellphone, so I did, and then.....she answered. She gave me the most amazing explanation, that someone took all 5 bedrooms. Not only her word worth nothing, but she didnt even care to answer my calls to say that the bedrooms are no longer available. What a surprise, she looked like a really good person.

We called this lady to make a reservation after an add we saw. We asked her the price and she said it was $425USD. I told her it was 2 of us and that we wanted 1 room with 2 twin size beds. She said that was fine and she quoted me the same price again, $425USD or 1200 soles. I speak perfect Spanish, I grew up in Peru, so there was nothing lost in translation. When we arrived there she tried to give us a room with a full size bed but we told her we wanted 2 tween beds. She said ok. Showed us the room and when we were ready to pay her, she said it would be $425 EACH. She said she decided that and that as it. They do not have a pool by the way. It is a yaccuzi. There is no gym either. Her add says Miraflores. She is not, she is in Surco. There is a huge sign saying so before you enter her subdivision. She is far from everything and it is hotter there than anywhere in Lima. Even the taxi driver told me it was not Miraflores after we spent 1/2 hour looking for the place before she sent us to the wrong city.
Hope you find a better place. PARIWANA hostel has our vote.

Room Tip: Do not rent from this lady.Go to PARIWANA HOSTEL in the REAL MIRFLORES. All rooms are horrible.

Living in the Benavides home for 4 1/2 months was a very loving, relaxed, and cultural experience for me. I studied in Lima for a semester and enjoyed my stay with Charo and Carlos tremendously! I had my own room, bathroom, porch, a huge window with a great view, and even a kitchenette for the three upstairs rooms to share! The food was downright delicious Peruvian eatery and Carlos and Mama Charo really foster a spanish speaking environment nicely. I would recommend living here without any hesitations. You are in a perfect location (20 minute walk to Larcomar or Parque Kennedy and 35 minute walk to Makaja), with a loving family, and a comfortable living arrangement! A great way to introduce yourself to Peru would be to live with a host family, especially the Benavides'.

I stayed with the Benavides family for a two month period while studying in Peru. The family made me feel very welcomed, and Rosario was always very excited to share Peru with her guests! The food was always authentic Peruvian, delicious (!!!!!), and healthy plus always desert! Also, the bedrooms were all clean, comfortable, and spacious with their own bathroom. Miraflores is a very convenient and fun neighborhood of Lima to stay in. Overall, I enjoyed my time as a part of the Benavides family immensely and would recommend their guest house to anyone planning to visit Lima!

I stayed in the lovely Benavides home from August to December 2011, the home is beautiful, clean and has all the necessities and plenty of extras too. Televisions in all of the bedrooms, private bathrooms and movies galore! The food was one of my personal favorites, Rosario ensures that the students experience all types of traditional peruvian cuisine both in the home and out side of it. There is also a focus on health as only natural ingredients are used, the portions are generous and there is always desert! Each member of the family is very kind and more than willing to help with any questions, homework or help in any way that they can. They all are also very knowledgeable about the museums, historical sites, and events happening in Peru and are a great resource. Overall the months that I spent with the Benavides was some of the best months of my life. I would recommend them to anyone and everyone who wants an incredible experience while in Lima.

I stayed her during a study abroad trip for a little over a month. From the moment I walked in the door, Rosario and Carlos were warm and made me feel at home. The accommodations were better than I expected. I shared an apartment that was attached to the house with it's own entrance.

The apartment was very modern and chic, with anything and everything a traveler would need. Each bedroom (3) had it's own private WC and shower. In the bedrooms there was ample space along with a bed, bedside table, lamp, extra pillows and sheets, an armoire for clothing, a desk, chest of drawers, and a television. Each room also had the benefit of an entire wall of sliding windows which led out onto a patio overlooking Lima towards Laracomar and the beach. I enjoyed waking up to the sunny room each day, but they were dressed with blackout curtains just like a hotel. Each day I returned to fresh sheets and linens, and a new liner in my waste basket, very detail oriented house keeping.

The kitchen adjoining the three rooms held a cozy breakfast nook and was fully equipped with necessary and new appliances. Some things like tea, sugar, coffee, and spices were already stocked as well. The decor of the apartment is reminiscent of a house on MTV's The Real World, but the companionship and mentor-ship offered by the Benavides family was like no other place I have been. We were invited for meals that were out of this world delicious, with new and exciting things on the menu eat day. I took pictures of nearly every meal!

We never hesitated to ask for advice and they took us on sightseeing tours around the city with pleasure. This family really enjoys having people in their home, and will let it be known. However, as a student, at times I needed my privacy and they were completely respectful of this as well. I would recommend the Benavides Family Guest House to friends/family/and colleagues alike. The neighborhood was the safest in all Lima, with friendly, privately hired gaurds at nearly every corner. They were kind and would make passerby chit chat with us everyday, checking in to make sure we were doing well. Nice neighborhood feel to Lima in Miraflores, which in other parts can feel a bit sketchy.

Lima would not have been the same with out them. Not to mention, I wouldn't have been able to navigate it or see the places they took me to without their eager assistance. These people put the human back in humanity. I hope to visit again someday soon!

Room Tip: All rooms are equally good, one had two twin beds and the other has a queen.

I lived at the Benavides Guest House for 6 weeks during the Summer of 2011 while studying at the Universidad del Pacifico and had an extremely enjoyable experience. The rooms are spacious, clean, well-decorated, well-furnished and made me feel right at home. I had my own television, desk and bathroom. I also shared a kitchen with my roommates with full amenities and it felt like we had our own apartment. The neighborhood is extremely safe and within walking-distance from Wong groceries which has almost everything you could ever need to purchase, not to mention Larcomar and Parque Kennedy. The Benavides family is very sweet, respectful and willing to help with anything. I could not recommend this accommodation any higher!
