Excellent dinner at Central. They have several different rooms, if you can get one that looks into the kitchen, it's worth it. The food was excellent, like most places in Lima. The wine was great, we had also brought a few bottles of our own, they charge a small corking fee, which is great.
The setting is beautiful, service was good as well.

This is a tremendous five star restaurant. We especially enjoyed the hot ceviche appetizer. The invitation into the kitchen also was special.

Really really good food and service. We arrived late in the evening and just had main courses. It was definitely in the top 5 meals that I've ever had.

We enjoyed the food but we found the food confusing in respect of dishes - I expected Peruvian food and it seemed to us some of the dishes were a mix of cuisines and flavours - service was very good and the chef came round to each table.

The restaurant is located in the quiet upscale neighborhood of Miraflores and it's within walking distance from many hotels. We were advised by both our tour guide as well as our hotel that it is generally safe to walk around Miroflores even at night, and we certainly felt this way walking back to the hotel after dinner around 11pm. For dinner, the restaurant opens at 8pm and reservation is a MUST! What's also important to note is that you may lose your reservation if you're more than 15 minutes late, so arrive on time! There were some American tourists in front of us without a reservation when we checked in at the restaurant. The hostee offered them to sit and wait at the bar area and told them that if anyone doesn't show up, they could have a table later. A while later, I saw the four entering the dinning room and this was a Saturday night! So, if you don't have a reservation but would nevertheless like to dine at Central, it's definitely worth a try to arrive right at 8pm - you may get lucky and get a table, or if not, you can at least eat at the bar area. Back to the restaurant and food itself... we opted for the tasting menu. While the menu is interesting and the food is good, it seems to me that there's perhaps a bit too much coca in the various dishes. I mean, I understand that coca is a "regular" part of Peruvian cuisine, but the number of dishes with coca was perhaps a bit too many and lead me to feel like they are doing this only for the tourists (instead of creating a creative meal). Other than that, we found the food generally tasty and interesting. It was definitely not the best restaurant I have experienced, but it's creative and certainly an interesting experience worth trying in Lima. In terms of service, we did not have a great start. After being seated at the table, we waited for at least 10+ minutes before anyone attempted to talk to us for our drink order. Thereafter, we asked about a possible substitution on the tasting menu for one of the courses due to a dietary restriction for one person in the party. The waiter said that a substitution is possible and we followed up by asking what they would serve us as the substitute to make sure that it's OK. For that, the waiter said that he'd have to check with the kitchen and let us know, except that he never returned! Another 10-15 minutes later, we gave up and asked another waiter, who was very attentive and got an answer for us right away. I guess it would depend on your luck in terms of the service level here. We also got the wine pairing with the tasting menu and I didn't feel like the wine pairing was worth the money, as they (the waiter) only poured some tiny amount of wine for each glass. It's about 50ml max (definitely less than 100ml) per glass he poured. For comparison purposes, a typical American glass would be about just shy of 200ml! In summary, the food was tasty though not the best we've had; the place is very well decorated with a modern and interesting touch; the service was inconsistent and the wine slightly overpriced. Would we recommend the place? Probably yes, given that you're informed about the possible issues. Would we return to Central? Probably no.
