Not worth it, you will be stuck in traffic at least an hour to get here. Yet once you arrive it is dirty and in bad shape not well conserved. If you make it to the main plaza by the river there will be people on the street singing every half a mile, too crowded, and dirty. I have visited other historic centers in South America this one is the worst so far.

“No trip is complete”

The historic center of Lima is nothing spectacular, but can you really visit a city without seeing its center? Take a city tour, and then spend the rest of your time in Miraflores.

“Interesting visits to the Presidential Palace and the Inquisition”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2014

Visits to the historic center of Lima is always interesting, with it's many beautiful churches and other buildings. This time became special, as we got a guided tour of the presidential palace with lot's of extra information. And refreshing the knowledge about the Catholic inquisition having one of its headquarters in Lima for hundreds of years added good historical background!

“Cool architecture”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2014

We took a taxi to the area from Miraflores, then did the self guided walking tour as described in the Lonely Planet guide. It was interesting, and we could go at our own pace and skip the stuff that didn't appeal to us.

“Great variety of history within walking distance”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2014

Lots of churches, government buildings, museums and homes to visit within a short distance. Always something going on for visitors to see and the area feels as safe as any large city.
