“Great food, great hospitality”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

We are first time visitors to Lima. Our hotel concierge offered us recommendations to seafood restaurants that appeared to be in the tourist trap category rather than something representative of an authentic Lima dining experience. So we turned to Tripadvisor for recommendations in the Miraflores neighborhood we were visiting and Costazul appeared at the very top of the list.

The whole experience was terrific, with owner Carlos and his son proving to be excellent hosts and guides through their fresh, simple seafood menu. We went with their recommendations and were very pleased. The octopus mushame, a house specialty, was a highlight, as were the ceviches and grilled sea bass dishes we tried. The pisco sours were also top notch. All told, it was an experience that was about (great) food but also about exceptional personal hospitality that made for a memorable dining experience. Be aware that only cash payments are accepted, in soles and USD.

“Most pleasurable experience”
Reviewed December 26, 2013

We were a crew, airline. Our captain brought us to this gem. I have eaten all over the world and this meal at Costazul was one of the best of my life. We were warmly received by Carlos and Carlos, father and son. Carlos the son is an expert "foodie" and explained every detail and nuance of the dishes on the menu. He went with all of his suggestions and we're absolutely "wowed". Each dish was special, an array of the finest and freshest seafood I have ever eaten! Everything was so fresh and expertly prepared. The ceviche was the very best I have ever eaten. I could taste every one of the ingredients from the melt in your mouth bass to the shrimp to the array of fine and delicate tasting assorted "mariscos". Carlos explained to us that the crevice at Costazul is NOT prepared in a large quantity in the morning and left to sit all day. The delicate, flavorful and expert crevice at Costazul is always prepared fresh for each individual order. We had a wonderful time. The food was perfect and plentiful. We were also very fortunate to be treated to the passionate and entertaining guitar playing and singing of Carlos ( the father ) a powerful passionate voice, singing from the soul. Beautiful guitar playing. This was a memorable evening that we all enjoyed fully. To quote Carlos ( the father) the food at Costazul is not prepared with the fingers....it comes from the heart. Highly recommend this wonderful experience.

“Dont Judge a book by it's Cover!!”

Of all of the fancy, highly recommended restaurants Lima has to offer, if you pass by the outside, you may think you have the wrong address. Located in a residential neighborhood, Costazul is a seafood lovers delight.

It is not possible to be seated for more than five minutes, and not be engaged in a conversation with either Carlos Sr, or Jr. Start with todays recommendations, and you will be in for a real treat. After that, the topics of discussion will be all over the place, as this will be a social meal, enjoy all of it.
Plate after plate everything is above par, remember, you are in a place that serves real food, no fancy tablecloths, or waiters in jackets and bowties, just really good food. Although it was only a week ago that I ate there, I can not remember specifically the names of each item, but nevertheless I am looking forward to our next trip to Costazul. Also, dont expect it smell like a seafood restaurant, with the odor of fried fish permeating the air and your clothes, Carlos is just like me, he hates the smell of fish, so only the freshest ingredients will pass through the kitchen door.

“A must for the seafood lover.”
Reviewed December 20, 2013 via mobile

We came here not knowing what to expect as the place was empty when we were arrived, it was dinner time though most ceviche places are lunch only and costazul closes at 8. We were greeted by a friendly waiter who sat us down and explained us a little about the menu. When it was time to order Carlos the owner came an introduced himself and gave us his recommendations and we just went with it. We were pretty keen on just eating ceviche but Im glad we listened as the 3 dishes he picked were amazing. We started with his favourite octopus dish which was amazing, drenched in some of the finest olive oil I have ever tasted. The highlight was definitely the ceviche the best we had in Lima. Wow! If your in Lima you have to come here.

“Touristy but who cares?!?!”

Both Carlos sr and carlos jr are absolute gems and so friendly. The food here is incredible. I think its the olive oil. We went for lunch on a sunny Sunday. It was empty when we arrived (the football was on) but soon filled up. Try the octopus sashimi and the leche de tigre. As one of the messages on the wall put it oh so well "Fresca in San Francisco could learn a thing or two from this place/"
