Try the arroz arrecife and the leche de tigre merlin. They are both really good. Service was good too. Had a good meal.

“Great value, food okay, mediocre service”

We had lunch in El Merlin de Cabo Blanco, in the Lince district in Lima, Peru. The restaurant is very nice looking, with two floors. The waiters run around from the first floor up the stairs to the second floor. I had a mixed experience. We were on the second floor, where it was very hot. Occastionally some cold air would come through the window when it got windy. The waiter was forgetful and had to be reminded frequently to bring us water or other things we asked for. It was not for lack of trying, it was a classic case of a restaurant owner trying to squeeze too much out of its service staff, and not hiring enough people. The waiters were running but could not keep up. This is more common now in Lima, where wages are going up. The starters were outstanding. Choros (Mussels), Conchitas a la Parmezana (scallops with cheese in the oven), Tiradito (a type of ceviche in cream of peppers), accompanied by a Pisco Sour which was mediocre - too warm and too sour. Main course was a Pescado en salsa langostina, a cooked fish with shrimp cream, one of my favourite dishes in Peru, not served everywhere. Typically restaurants serve the fish with seafood cream sauce, which i don't like. But this restaurant served it. It was just okay though. The fish was bit chewy, and the sauce too buttery, too fat, and too salty. Accompanied by a beer (that I had to ask for twice before i arrived), the main course was edible. The value was great though - in Miraflores we would have paid twice for what we had at the table. Net, a great value, with acceptable food, nothing special.
