“Great Choice”
Reviewed July 28, 2014

Food here was excellent, the best we had in Iquitos. It is a bit upscale for the area and reasonably priced. This was the only restaurant that added tax to the bill (about 10%). There is a wide variety on the menu and it was recommended by gringos living in Iquitos

“Sells endangered animals”
Reviewed July 25, 2014

The food we had was good enough, but the atmosphere wasn't the best and what really bothered me: they had alligator and other endangered (and illegal) animals on the menu...

“Get a taste of the old glamorous Iquitos”
Reviewed January 31, 2014

Nice restaurant located in an old building from the "rubber age". You will get an idea of how things were when there was money in town. Went there for a 22 S menu. A bit more work and variety is put into the dishes as compared to the rest of the city. You cannot stop feeling a bit sorry that the place seems somewhat abandoned. Worth a visit.

“Surprisingly Great!”
Reviewed July 19, 2013

We kind of gave this one a try as "okay, we'll give one more place that purports to offer good regional cooking a go", and were completely surprised. Excellent service, beautiful space, excellent food - easily the best we ate while in Iquitos. Portions are huge, no, enormous. We were full after finishing our appetizers and barely managed to dent our excellent main courses. Given that, while initially the place seems expensive, I'd honestly recommend splitting one appetizer and one main course per two people, and only order more if you're still hungry - making it a great value.

“Hidden Gem”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

I've eaten at La Gran Maloca a couple times and must say it is an unusual restaurant with delicious food. The building is from the rubber-boom era, but the decor is unusual mix posters of American bands/movie stars and local art of native people. The menu is extensive and the portions large. I enjoyed my chicken dish as did my fiancee enjoyed his patarashca fish dish. He said it was the best one he had while in Iquitos. The restaurant wasn't terribly busy, but we were the only foreigners in the place. It is 2 blocks from the Plaza de Armas, and directly in front of the BBVA Continental bank on Sargento Lores. Frankly the few times we walked passed it, I thought it was closed, but it is open for lunch and dinner. Food was delicious and the meals were approximately 30-40 soles a plate.
