The monkeys were cute but we expected a little more explanation about the place. It was a very, very long boat ride to get there, at least half an hour to 45 minute walk for a visit of maybe half an hour...maybe 45 minutes.

Loved every second of it, a dream come true.
Welcomed from our hostel by the owner, escorted to the boat, greeted when we arrived, played with all sorts of monkeys, had baby Neeko in my arms and watched him grow in confidence after being found injured in a market place.
The work they do is amazing and it was a pleasure to be part of it.
A must for anyone in Peru.
I plan on going back asap to volunteer on the island.

Monkey Island truely is an amazing place, where monkeys roam around freely. If you have a handful of nuts they will be your best friend-great place!

We visited during high flooding and took a boat ride around the habitat. Monkeys with red bare faces were in the cages. All the other monkeys ran freely and will come into your boat. Sweet to see how affectionate the monkeys are with the guides. They ate crackers out of our hands.

Whilst when we went, it was partially flooded, the monkeys came from everywhere for the food, it is great that such a place exists for these monkey to reintegrate, adapt and learn to be monkeys again, but beware don't leave anything on the boat as the monkeys do explore it and will take off with anything in it, like our sunscreen lol we got it back.

Hola Kerrien!
We wanted to thank you for your review! We appreciate your visit especially during the flooding. Yes, the monkeys are very curious and we find ourselves chasing them quite a bit in order to retrieve the items they sneak off with!
