“Great Vibes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2012

The owners are super nice and helpful. The Hostel is great. I stayed there for a couple of nights in July. Breakfast was really good, and I thoroughly enjoyed hanging out in the courtyard, talking with many fascinating people. I highly recommend this place to anyone traveling to Iquitos.

hi there, thanks very much for your kind review of our hostel. I have also spent many hours out in the courtyard talking with the many fascinating people that find their way to our door. We have put a lot of work into making Green Track Hostel the kind of place that attracts interesting people from all over the world, and I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us.

Also, the newest addition to our courtyard is a regulation-size ping pong table! It looks like it will be getting a lot of use out there in the maloca, by the guests as well as the owners...

Im actually not too sure of pricing of other hostels but I thought this one was a good value. It's a little further from the plaza de Armas but not a deal breaker. The owner, is very helpful, quick to address issues and a great host. The Internet wasn't so great but not sure it was much better elsewhere. This is definitely the hostel to stay at if you love to cook. I've never seen such a well equipped, organized and clean kitchen. All around great place to stay.

After spending nearly 3 months in Iquitos, towards the end of my trip I came across Green Track Hostel. What a treat! The hostel is absolutely complete. Great location, right near the center of town, QUIET (which is difficult to find in Iquitos), has a beautiful open garden with seating, tables, hammocks, a huge fully equipped kitchen, very neat and clean rooms/bathrooms (with amazing water pressure in the shower), a nice living room area with a huge TV, and although I'm not a drinker, a neat little bar connecting the front room to the open courtyard. The owners, Caleb and Katoo are really wonderful and gracious hosts making sure to attend to eveyone's needs.
I had the opportunity to take a tour to the jungle with Katoo, such a great experience. We visited a community called El Chino (about 3 hrs by boat from Iquitos) where we were received with open arms by a beautiful family who will forever have a very special place in my heart. We did an amazing jungle hike the next day where we were given a rich abundance of information regarding all the various plants and life of the jungle. On our final day we went fishing, what an incredible experience that was. All in all, my experience with Green Track Hostel was the icing on the cake to my entire trip. Thank you Green Track!

I was staying in greentrack for 10 days. during that time we went to the jungle for 4 days and were doing all the nice activities around the Iquitos. Butterfly farm, mamantee rescue center, zoo, shamans, Super Erectus:) etc.
Hostel is nice and clean and owners, Caleb and Katu are very honest and giving the best information related to life and activities around Iquitos. I would reccomend it to people who are travelling first time to Iquitos because it is very important to start your adventure with the right and honest people. K

We throughly enjoyed our time in Iquitos, helped in part by the warm welcome we received at the Green Track Hostel. Caleb and Katoo are excellent hosts, always happy to give advice about things to see and do, restaurants and bars to try, as well as being generally friendly and hospitable. Cable tv in the front room is great, and showers are nice and cold (which is what you want in Iquitos). Still some minor teething problems as you might expect with a new hostel such as breakfast being left uncovered outside (not ideal with the heat). Also water main works in Iquitos itself means that the water supply is sometimes turned off - not a problem with the showers, as they are connected to a separate tank, but sometimes no water from the taps. But this is an Iquitos-wide problem, and not the fault of the hostel itself. Could also do with a dedicated computer for guests to use the internet on, but the staff were happy to let us use their computer when we needed to. Overall, however, an excellent hostel that offers good value for money and one I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Iquitos. Cannot be stressed enough how friendly a welcome and help throughout we received from Caleb and Katoo and this definitely made our stay relaxing and enjoyable.

Room Tip: Some of the internal rooms don't have A/C, just a fan, which doesn't really help in combatin...

Hello there alexp733, and thanks so much for your candid and detailed review of our hostel. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay here. I would like to address some of the other points you raised, in an effort to make improvements for our current and future guests:

Water supply-- road construction continues for the time being, all across Iquitos, and water service is a citywide problem. We were notified this morning that service interruptions will be occurring daily at the same times. We have our own tank, as you noted, and we are currently weighing our options to do further infrastructure work so that the water issue will not be such a nuisance. Also, I should note that we do not have hot water at the hostel, as it is not a common feature of many hotels here, and very few guests ever request it.

Breakfast-- we have established fixed hours for breakfast, so it does not overstay its welcome.

A/C-- Currently, the 6-bed dormitory, one private room, and the TV lounge all have air conditioning. The rest of the rooms have floor fans. Installing more A/C units is on the agenda, as our budget permits.

Computer for Guests-- I am happy to report that, as of today, we have installed a dedicated computer for guest use 24/7. Visitors to Iquitos should note that, because there is only satellite internet service here in the jungle, high speed internet is not a reality at the moment. But at the hostel we subscribe the the same service as every other hotel and restaurant in town, and we get decent speed most of the time.

Thanks again for your review.

This special place is simple but complete, full kitchen, wifi available, common living room with plasma tv, bar , open air garden and friendly, knowlegeable staff. Occasionally, they have small concerts with live guitar music that really sets the place apart from the others. If you are looking for a place that is not so touristy, relatively quiet, clean, cheap with good attention- Green Track Hostal is waiting for you!
