Having spent 3 days in the Amazon covered in Mosi killer this hotel was an absolute gem. Masses of hot water, clean sheets, air conditioning. We had to be off early in the morning so didn't have time for breakfast. We asked for a river view room-Wow sunrise on the Amazon and quiet.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view room i.e. not road side.

My husband, I and our two boys just returned from our Peru trips of 3 weeks travelling been to various hotels from expensive Lima country house, very expensive Cusco/&Machu Picchu heritage hotels and then Iquitos city/and jungle. Iquitos is not the best of all points to visit, but this hotel has provided overall the best value accomodation for us, staff are all very helpful especially the hotel manager 'Mr Ramon' very helpful fully support us to go thru every concerns in Iquitos with proper English help which was very valuable for non-Spanish speaking tourists,he even helped arranging our accomodation after mid-day c/out until our mid-night flight connection via his own friend while casa morey was fully booked up. Two rooms we had were very very spacious comfortable. Though this is not that kind of 4/5 stars internationally known hotel, but for every dollar to be spent this hotel got best value-highly recommended it to Iquitos traveller!!

Room Tip: the rooms face park/river front are beautiful quieter

Iquitos is a dirty, crumbling, raffish town so it's nice to find a hotel that is clean and has been well renovated and transports you back to its time as a mansion during the rubber boom. The bedrooms are stylish and grand and adequately (but not lavishly) furnished. The reception room, library and dining room are stately and beautiful and there is a tempting swimming pool. The staff are welcoming and Ramon, who speaks excellent English, goes out of his way to ensure that you have everything you need. My room facing the pool was quiet but a little musty; upstairs rooms facing the water are probably the pick of the lot.

My husband and I enjoyed a delightful stay here. It is a beautiful hotel! The staff is proud, and rightfully so, of their hotel. They were very friendly and helpful to insure we were comfortable, from offering suggestions for site seeing to hailing moto-taxis. The breakfast was very good, fresh fruits, breads, eggs. The hotels renovations are sensitive to the era it was built which makes it a pleasure to explore. Our room was a treasure with its high ceilings and huge windows that look out over a park promenade and the river. Beautiful! We plan to return to the rain forest and will definitely look forward to staying here again.

Hotel looked nice from the outside with nice tiles and windows. The reception area, the library, and the dining room were quite beautiful with lots of antiques. There was a free computer in the library. Breakfast was good.
The room was terrible. There was one full sized bed along with a twin bed. Both were on homemade wooden platforms with only a mattress on top of the frame. The sheet was so thin you could see right through it. There were two cheap plastic tables between the beds. Only other furniture in the room were two chairs and a non working tv on a cheap stand.
There was a large foyer at the entrance to the room. Unfortunately, there was no furniture in the foyer.
There was a nice set of french doors leading out to the pool. They had a cheap lock on the doors that probably would not keep any one out if they pulled on the door hard enough. No safe was in the room. When I asked to keep my wallet in the secure back area of the reception, it was put in the drawer at reception. That was a complete lack of security.
The bathroom was very large. The old fashioned pull the chain box had to be pulled many times in order to flush the toilet. The large thin bath towel had many holes in it. The shower curtain was a cheap dollar store curtain.
The hotel has potential if they would just furnish the rooms decently.
The locaton was ok.

Tula F, Manager at La Casa Morey, responded to this reviewResponded June 19, 2012

The guest that wrote the disappointed review visited the Casa Morey as part of an organized tour group lead by an international overseas travel company. This company insisted on using all the rooms of the Casa Morey, despite being explicitly told that two rooms were not furnished completely, to the same level as the other rooms. Representatives from the travel company visited the Casa Morey and knew about the conditions of these two rooms, but still insisted on signing a contract that included the occupancy of these two rooms. The Casa Morey was reluctant, but was given a guarantee by the travel company representative that there would be absolutely no problem in using these two rooms and that the guests that they bring to the Casa Morey would be informed about these rooms. Unfortunately, the guest who wrote the disappointed review stayed in one of these two unfinished rooms and was informed by the travel company about the condition of the room. These two rooms are currently not being used for our reserved guests and will only be used when they are completely finished. We have learned an important lesson from this situation and we at the Casa Morey will never again sign a contract with a travel company that pushes us to do something that we think is incorrect.

Iquitos has to be one of the noisiest, dirtiest, climatically challenging cities in all of South America.
Almost every Trip Advisor recommendation mentions the noise factor, so we went out of our way as a couple to spend a little more to guarantee a good night's sleep. We emailed Ramon at Casa Morey and he assured us we would have the quietest and best room available.
Wow, on arrival, this most personable individual (Ramon) showed us to his 'best' room. We were confronted with the biggest bedroom we had ever seen in a hotel, with 18 foot ceilings, air conditioning and a gorgeous view out over the river. His quoted price of US$100.00 (including an Airport transit) to our surprise was adjusted down to $85.00. It was like a Royal Palace, the service was likewise and the breakfast was in keeping with the ambience. By far our best (and quietest) accommodation experience in South America. Well done Ramon, you deserve your patronage.

Room Tip: Be sure to mention the 'quietness' factor in your initial discussions here.

Lovely old building. High ceilings. Good breakfast. Poor water pressure but overwise very pleasant. Nice people. Can't do better in Iquitos.
