Our family of 4 (Bruce, Cathy, our 18 year old son that is in a wheelchair or stroller, and our 15 year old daughter) spent 4 nad a half days in Iquitos. Three dayswe took boat trips with Dawn on the Amazon (butterfly farm, pink dolphins, a couple local villages, snakes, and Belen by water) in June 2009. We had spent the previous 5 days in Cuzco, the Sacred Valley, and at Machu Picchu. Our daughter's comment was why didn't we skip the first part of our trip and just come to Iquitos!
We thoruoughly enjoyed each day with the boat captain (Edson) and our guide (Magaly). We were the only ones on the boat and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and relaxed atmosphere. We saw some beautiful birds and animals. We had great lunches on the boat.
We look forward to coming back and taking an extended trip into one of the reserves.
We also enjoyed most of the restaurants recommended by Bill!
We also visited the local museum and the zoo while staying at the Apart Hotel.
